Well, this is a mixed blessing.  After playing Submarine back in the dark ages, and moving on to Great Naval Battles 4 (still a favorite when I can get it to work), I found this.  Been watching videos and learning for months now, not sure I wanted to actually download the game and watch all my free time evaporate.  But finally bit the 8" AP and did it.  Played my first practice battle today, and sunk 3 ships, gave out over 60 hits with an Erie.  Useful practice, even if no payoff.

 

This game was made to tempt me.  As a lifelong student of naval warfare, and especially WWII, and more especially the Pacific actions, I just can't resist WoWS.  I hope to take it slow, learn gradually, and enjoy the grind, but we'll see.  As my name says, I am partial to cruisers, though most of the good press is about battleships.  I have taught college-level classes on historic naval warfare, so my resistance is particularly low.  In life I tend to concentrate on being a good follower rather than a leader, and that may carry on here.

 

I do have a question, though.  Is it better to get a premium membership now when I need the extra experience most, or wait, or just skip it?  Money is not much of an obstacle, but might be used better elsewhere.

First, welcome!

 

IMO it's best to use premium when you're likely to nolife the game the most, which is probably going to be near the beginning. If your budget isn't too tight, I would say go ahead and get a week or a month and then see how you feel when it runs out.

I play everything except carriers and enjoy them all. DD's and heavy ships (8 inch and up), do take some getting used to, though.

Try a weekend package and see what it does for you. Remember, the clock ticks whether or not you play.

If you are going to get premium now is the best time as the XP economy in lower tiers enables you to experiment with ships/upgrades to try out what sort of game styles you prefer. Later on tiers 5+ take a lot of xp to get new ships so you are more limited in your resources.

 

I would try out a shorter period first.

 

You don't need to get premium I didn't until I had tier 9 ships and the game was no different just took longer to make XP & credits.
