AA Coverage

Damage Sponge

these are some supportive actions that greatly help the team......battleships and their ability to soak dmg

dd and their ability to spot Heck even cvs can do it to.......cruisers with their aa Coverage and assistance Dmg...all looked down upon with some receiving some very minor xp.

All these item were added to WoT i would hope the same happens here.

BB's and cruisers (especially at high tiers) can generally hit targets much farther away than they can see them on their own, so having allies forward spotting for you is tremendously helpful to their ability to deal damage and should be rewarded.  If I'm only able to hit a target because a DD on my team is spotting them for me, then that DD should be credited for some portion of the damage I just dealt.

Honestly I've had matches where I was never able to fire my guns once but shot down 29 fighters or so that went after the battleship that I was protecting in my cleve, I didn't get damn near anything and was close to the bottom of the board. I get that people think AA is 'easy mode' but why should I escort you when I get nothing for it?

The problem is with quantification.  There's really no way to calculate that kind of thing mathematically, so I doubt we'll see those kind of actions rewarded in terms of XP.  But express your appreciation in chat, at least that's something.

IMO, Some of these support functions are quantified well using the WOT mechanics.  Scouting effectively can make or break a match and I've gotten some very lucrative spotting damage as a result.  Also, the calculations for received damage potential are in WOT as well.  Wish i could get steel wall in my BB after distracting 5 other ships for 1/2 the match with forward angling.

I've seen both mechanics make or break a game without getting adequately rewarded for it.

was going to mention WoT as well ...... think you've covered it though. Steel Wall would be awesome too

I commonly run AA with the Atlanta.  Every few missions I get to evaporate a major combined air assault as I position it near the lowest tier BB(s) and hit the 'T' button.  The planes just fall out of the sky as I use the cursor to select the torps first, bombs second, fighters third.

Makes me feel better to do this after recklessly charging the Atlanta into withering gunfire and dying without landing a shot.  Certainly let my team down when I did that.

I tried this fun with the Aoba and Konigsburg and was disappointed.  Atlanta is something special.

The important thing is that a smart carrier driver (and 'not smart' ones like me) will see an Atlanta between two battleships and decide to attack something else - steering all aircraft way around them.  I had one carrier try to bait me with the bombers so I'd use my AA early, but they died without me expending that resource and the torps got theirs a minute later.  Shot down 19 aircraft and burned down a Nagato that game.... Good times.

What I'm trying to say is that if I wanted major XP or credits, I'd be driving a battleship or a destroyer.  As it is, I just want to be useful in some way.  If the team wins, we all win.

I'm sure there is a bonus for 'Your Team Won'.

Awarding XP or credits for doing the right thing just takes the 'feels good' away.

Did it at least cover your repair/upkeep costs?

Shooting down A/C should count as damage done. Right now, it is hard to tell exactly what one gets for downing a plane.

It seems like downing a plane is worth about 1/40 of the value of the ship that launched it.  Basically, it's not a good way to make exp or credits at all.

I was so pleased with the Nagato mission, I took screen shots.

Repair and ammo was about 13.5K  I got 7K damage from 4 AP rounds.  Received 219K, but I sunk a BB..

Rarely do I need to pull AA past the first couple assaults.  Some carrier drivers hold back their reserves till the end of the game to pick off stragglers - and make easier kills.

After the two carriers were out of planes, I broke free and went hunting - in the sneaky Atlanta way.  Also have tier 4 AFT so my gun range is out to 13km.

When I drive a New York, and I get dropped in a 'two carrier per side' battle...  I just know it's going to be painful.
