VIGILANCE COMMANDER SKILL (Torpedo Detection) WORTH IT?

I have both target acquisition mod upgrade and vigilance on commander for my Tirpitz. I am wondering if this is a good decision.

I don't really know how far my torpedo detection range is since it is a hidden stat.

Meh. If you see a destroyer and know he's in range to torp you you should expect it anyways. Seeing the torpedoes is actually nearly useless because if you only go by what you see it's far too late.

I have Commander Super Intendent and High Alert already. I just added Vigilance.

Sooooo you decided not to get a tier 4 or 5 skill then?

well, most of my ships don't get magic heal, so avoiding dmg is important.   especially for DDs.

That's right I didn't like any skills in tier 4 for my Tirpitz.

Tirpitz is a brawler and got pathetic AA.

the AFT would be very useful to extend the range of the AA to annoy possible aircraft and also extend your secondary fires range.

I play it quite the opposite. Ranged sniper, occasionally go in for a push.. using torps as a stand-off weapon in case someone wants to try to get close.

Tirpitz is a brawler class, will come short vs other BB in a ranged fight. Assuming players of equal skill lvl on both sides.

Also I despise of BB players who sit back and try to snipe and miss 90% of the time.

It depends on the ship you're using and your chosen role.  Do you actively hunt DDs?  No?  Then there are more valuable skills out there.  If you do and you don't use all of your consumable charges, then it can be worthwhile.  It's a skill I'm considering for my Atago which is quite adept at running down DDs.

I hate torps and prefer to brawl with my BBs so I tend to take the skill? A lot of people seem to think the extra heal is a better choice but the reduced chance of not having to use the repair party skill to stop flooding is worth it in my mind.

So does anyone have any idea what the default torpedo detection range is for any ship?

Maybe it's different for different torpedo types?

My ship is so slow, I have to snipe, if I want any chance of dealing damage before the match is over, lol!    The boys are too impatient to wait up for me.

I'm speaking of the Kawachi, of course.   Terrible dispersion makes it unlikely, but I have to try at least.   Once you get close, it's far more accurate- it just takes forever to GET close, lol.

After the last few days, it was ENORMOUSLY satisfying to beat a couple of DD's to death with it, and crit a couple of others.

Ok so I've done some research. See this link: http://forum.worldofwarships.com/index.php?/topic/55238-updated-list-of-torpedo-detection-ranges-shell-krupp-values/

That post is from October 2015. Since new patch, torpedo reaction times have been decreased 20%. Thus, Shimakaze's 11.28 sec is now about 9 seconds.

Then, add 40% (Acquisition Module + Vigilance) on top of 9 seconds the new reaction time is 12.6 seconds for Shima torps.

Tirpitz rudder shift is 12 to 13 seconds with upgrade which would allow for torp dodging if you slow down.

I think Vigilance is a good skill. It will save you one or two torp hits.

Vigilance skill, 3 points.

Dodging those torpedoes, priceless.

I take this back.  I just remembered I'm primarily a dd player.  Don't waste your time with torp spotting stuff.
