The recent surge of 'omg they're hacking and using aimbots' threads without any replays whatsoever but 'it totes magotes happened guise for realz' shows that we really need a proper replay functionality.

And there's even room to improve upon the WoT one.

What I would suggest:

1) Add replay functionality to the in-game menus instead of needing to edit an xml file

2) Make the options 'always on' or 'most recent 20', instead of 'only the most recent one'

3) Have it set to 'most recent 20' by default.

4) Even better would be the ability to load replays from within the game rather than closing the game, and opening a replay file with the game executable.

Relative to the game's own footprint, replay files are tiny so having 20 in your replays folder is not even a 1% increase in the game's footprint. And the performance drop is negligable, only noticable on absolute toasters that can't run the game to begin with. I mean, I have a under-minimum-spec 8 y/o CPU (E8600) and even I can run the game at ~30 fps on medium settings and don't suffer FPS drop when recording replays.

Come on, WG. Give us proper replay functionality, if only so that all those hackusations people throw around are open for actual peer review rather than 'but for real guize it happened' because we all know how notoriously unreliable eye witness testimonies are.

There was one hackusation posted today of which I thought 'yeah he might actually have a point', but since he had no replay file to prove his claims and all we had was his eye witness testimony, there is nothing to investigate and all we have is a mildly interesting case of 'eh, just maybe'.

I just enabled them a few days ago, and was surprised that we still need to edit a file manually.  With as much attention that this game and other WG games get on youtube, you would think this would be a no-brainer for them.  I only discovered WoT and WG because I was on youtube looking for CoH2 videos about the IS-2, and found a WoT video instead.

There is so much UI work to be done its not even funny that this game is in this state for open beta by a multi million dollar game company.

The game isn't open beta, it's live release. Which makes the omission of things like basic clan functionality and proper replay functionality even worse.

I would request the ability to save a replay and rename it in the after battle report. Seriously if I want a replay for a battle renaming it so it is not one of my two hundred two brothers battles would be great.

best thing to do, if you know you want that replay, is to immediately go to your replay folder and move it to a different folder.

It really should be included as basic functionality given the fact we often see the reply " send in a replay to Support " in response to player v player complaints.  :red_button:

or just imput a report for cheating and make people watch others replays for rewards like CSGO

if someone is using cheats report , i get the report video and watch it and if i call cheats the replay is going to another 3 people to see if he is really cheating or not , if you get 3 out of 5 that he is cheating , just ban him

But this thing to get just a few people not all , cause not all of them are decent or good at this game to see if someone is cheating or not

It's just a thing that might work in the future , maybe

could you imagine if they did that.      so much room for abuse, you cant prove someone is cheating.

Replays wont actually tell you if anyone is using an aim mod. It isn't a video recording, it just uses the basic in-game data to replicate (with a margin of error) a battle. For example, if you save replay on a client that is modded to hell and send it to someone with a vanilla client, you will just see the vanilla stuff. The only way I know of to prove without a doubt that someone isn't cheating in any way is for them to have raw video footage.

I've edited my preferences.xml file half a dozen times on the latest patch and still can't get replays to work.  No problem with the previous update.

I know what replays are and how they work. I also know that you can still see a lot from a replay. Unusual aiming, chat logs, teamdamage, etc.

Unless he is announcing in chat that he is cheating, I don't see how it would flush out aim assist users.     What would be considered unusual aiming?

Its more likely to shut down the people that said that they were getting hit by every single shell no matter how they maneuvered. Or the people that claim shooting through mountains or ships not being spotted until they are within a couple km.

Or people who claim torpedoes are a problem as opposed to a half minute or more lapse of competence.

Someone hitting every salvo without fail? It wouldn't 'prove' anything hard enough to warrant intervention but be a strong indicator that WG should monitor that player a bit closer.

Writing as many after-action reports and guides as I do, I am continually shocked at how much I miss happening around me while in game.  It usually takes two or three viewings of a replay from different angles just to appreciate my own decisions and how they affected those in my immediate vicinity.  It takes a lot longer to appreciate the splash-down effect each player's movements had on the overall turnout of the game.

Worse still that replays have been around for a very long time now.  This is a check box in the menu for minimal functionality.  Even if they don't grant your list of asks (which are good asks btw), just that would save so much time, and take so little effort.

I can't actually understand why replay's are so damn jumpy and jittery.

Seriously, why is that still an issue? How is that an issue at all.

Secondly, why aren't replays able to let us view the entire battle, each ship, at all times - the game is over, let us be able to see how the enemy fully played out the battle to deliver such a crushing defeat - or be able to see how that early destroyer rush actually panned out when it went out of render distance.

If it can be done in Starcraft 2, it can be one in WoWS.
