So Wargaming's taken to doing these "promotional" events now? And with absurd requirements?

Nevermind the fact that I quit this game two weeks after launch, thus wasting a massive amount of the premium time I had available to me (because I had preordered the Sims ship). Can you really blame me for not wanting to have to grind even harder to get the ships I wanted, after how the Closed Beta XP rates felt "just right"? (And I had expressed my opinion to this effect repeatedly.)

If I'd stuck around, maybe I'll have more than two Tier V ships (and currently have none that can adequately meet the "shoot down 150 fighters" challenge). But nope.jpg, Wargaming had to fail to listen to the testers after the Closed Beta Test, thus making me [edited]off to the corners of the damn internet playing other games that didn't make me feel like the time I put in was worthless.

I'm venting, as you can see.

I'm a bit upset. I'm a huge fan of Arpeggio of Blue Steel. I read each chapter that comes out on scanlation websites, and I've watched the movies and the anime.

And you go and do this promotion, with requirements that aren't even anywhere near what I have available - and it would take, at the very least, a week of solid playing to get an adequate inventory of ships to meet the challenge, and by then I'll probably not have enough days in the calendar to actually complete the challenges themselves.

These challenges/missions remind me of the [edited]Gaijin pulls with their promotions: "Complete this challenge every day for 30 days nonstop (and turning you into a no-lifer in the process), to earn a chance to play the British Tanks Beta!" Or god forbid, "You must earn top 500 in a stupid-[edited]tournament to earn the E-100! Good luck trying to get to that level with a pickup group."

Basically, challenges that are unlikely to ever work out for you, unless you have help (either from a clan or from the developer itself).

And these Arpeggio missions remind me of that.

Christ.

Well, the first Gaijin example won't happen in WoWs, it goes against their philosophy.

As for the second example, WoT has something similar with Clan Wars where the top n players get a tier 10 premium vehicle.

Still in WoWs the exp rate is ten times faster than in WoT.

So you say. Still, Wargaming really hurt my enthusiasm for the game when they didn't listen to me and a hundred other testers when we said that they shouldn't increase the XP grind.

Try spending a week stuck on the New York with no progress to the New Mexico because the XP output is terrible, and the XP requirements were absurd.

At least in War Thunder, the XP you earned in your tree went towards the tank you wanted to research, irrespective of what tank you played in that faction. This was what helped the grind significantly for me in that game - because it allowed me to play the vehicles I enjoyed the most while still earning progress. Here in World of Warships, you had to play the preceding ship, because if you played any other ship, all the XP you earned would just go into "convertible XP" which costs money (which I have little of right now).

I mean, I was there when people asked WG to not increase the experience grind.

Still, for me personally having played both Phantasy Star Online 1 and 2, the grind is nothing, but I still realize that it's a bit much for someone that can't dump more than 20 hours a week on a game.

My point with this whole dumb rant is: "Why even do these promotions with stupid requirements if someone who's new to World of Warships won't be able to complete those requirements in that amount of time...WITH A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME INVESTMENT?"

And a reasonable time investment is 2 hours a day, each week. 2 hours, 7 days = 14 hours, total.

Respectable amount of time, and it still doesn't generate a respectable amount of progression.

Wargaming, we're far past the days where you could waste entire months in High School grinding for the best levels, the best gear, and the best dungeons. We just don't have that kind of time anymore, and some of us also don't have the kind of money you're asking for.

Yes, but do you have the ships to get them!?

The only ships that meet the minimum requirements that I have, are the Murmansk, New York, and Sims. Tier 5, Tier 5, and Tier 7, respectively.

If I played the sims exclusively and with some degree of competence, the Myoko achievement would be doable.

But the problem is where you need to shoot down 150 fighters. I can't do that with the New York or the Murmansk. Literally impossible. Let's say I manage to shoot down one fighter a day with the remaining time left. I would never get past the Kongo II stage. Ever. EVER.

The situation would be far more manageable if I had more Tier 5+ ships.

I can help with that. I didnt sell my Bogue that I bought just for part 2 of Kongou.

I would be making it my mission to bait as many of their planes as possible over to you and having my Bogue guarantees at least one CV per battle

I still need to sink cruisers first, though. After about...four hours of playing, I have only managed to sink ONE cruiser. Just one.

I keep getting wrecked hard. It's like almost all of my shells are deliberately avoiding their intended targets.

it's not like the event is barely 1/4 over, or that there aren't still 3 other ships for them to put events out for.

You really want to pine over 150 fighters. You have new york already so have access to langley. langey is stupid easy grind and then you have bogue fighter spec for 150 planes. probably take you 10 games in bogue.

or have a friend, and get him to drop in a match same time as you in a cv, and have him float his planes over you all day.

fires are also easy, and then its just 1m damage which can be done at the same time.

There are solutions, think of them instead of thinking how to complain about the problem.

if you really think that can not be done in 45 days, then wow.

@OP

There was never even the slightest chance that the closed beta exp gain rates were going to remain that way post- launch. Those rates were far higher than any reasonable person could expect, especially since their other two games are the same way.

Quitting is nobody's fault but your own. They're not going to lower ship research costs and event requirements just suit people who can only play a few hours per week. Just the way it is.

since the beta, BBs have changed. their accuracy is a little less spot on and their AP is a little different. It just takes practice.

Worst case scenario, I can bring my ARP Kongou in and we just focus targets to give you a better chance of the killshot.

Killing the 30DDs is the hardest part for me.lol

Blergh. Still not a fan of "Do X, get Y" things. Sure, it's "content generation", but it just doesn't feel right to me.

This thread is full of butthurt.

Just play the game.

Not WGs' fault you quit with prem time ticking.

There is a limit to how much you could have me grind a battleship and not make any recognizable progress, even with premium active.

You might not want to do it, but if you can play your way up to the Bogue  (US T5 CV), you'll finish the 150 planes mission in no time.

I was able to knock it out in 5 games with that ship. Good luck

So, you're whining that, because you quit playing, you didn't magically advance up the tech lines and get better ships?

Would you be happier if there was no content you could earn just by playing, and that content was only available for $$?

If you could not progress with premium time active, that sounds like a personal problem to me. I did the new York in what 27 battles start to finish after they changed it from the scale we had in CBT.

And really, you seriously expected them to keep the CBT scale? That was simply there to allow beta testers to get through the game quickly in a limited amount of time since CBT was extremely short.

There was no way in HELL that scale was going to remain once live came around. One look at the scale in World of Tanks could of told you that.

Oh wait. I told most of you that coming out of beta when many of you threw your arms up and stamped your feet like spoiled children.

Must have been a real shock to have to play a ship more times than its tier number to elite it.

Sorry, NKato, but I don't feel sorry for you.

YOU are the one who quit playing for a long while.  And because of YOUR decision, you haven't progressed any further in your grinds.

Furthermore, I don't see these ARP missions as being aimed at total newbies, given the ship tier requirements. I think that the last thing that WG and veteran players want to see is for new players to be able to quickly and easily grind to a tier 5 BB and tier 7 CA reward ARP ships without having taken the time and effort to have ground up through the tiers to have actually EARNED ships of those tiers.

As for the amount of XP required to progress through each ship and tier's research, it seems fine to me.  WG isn't in business to let you get every ship with minimal game play.  After all, if they did that, they'd probably make no money because no one would need to buy premium time nor buy doubloons to convert free XP to speed their grinds, and so on.
