What's your first sign that your match will end poorly?

What key do you look for to tell you how the match is going to go?

As a cruiser driver it becomes very obvious we're going to do poorly, when the Battleships don't push to battle and sit back and let the cruisers get crushed by the enemy battleships. Yes, the cruisers probably shouldn't be that far up, but at a certain point in time the enemy is in your cap, and your battleships have positioned themselves so far out of the match that they cannot defend the cap, or push the enemy cap. So you end up having to try and win without a chance.

9 times out of 10 I can call a loss in the first 5 minutes of the game because of this.

There are only 2 stats i care about

1. Having fun

2. How much damage i do per battle.

The first sign for me that a battle will not go as well as i want it is by looking at the loading screen and seeing how many battleships are on the other team. Battleships are stocked full of hitpoints, so an enemy team with more battleships is likely to have more total hitpoints than your own team. Which is perfect for getting loads of damage. I hate nothing more than loading into a battle and seeing that the enemy team only has 1 battleship, means that there is less possible damage for me to do and.. lets face it... battleships are far easier to hit than cruisers and destroyers.

The most common is when the vast majority of your team heads off to a far edge of the map, far away from any cap points.

I had one last night where all four of our destroyers went to B, the middle of three cap points, and all four got sunk within the first five minutes.

Being in a Stock Fuso and seeing Tier VIII cruiser battleships and aircraft carriers on the other team.

Basically just getting bashed by bombers and German cruiser without the ability to shot back.

I demand my EXP bonus back if I'm in a round like that.

Realizing you're the only BB on your team firing AP at cruisers and battleships, while the enemy's BBs are all firing AP.

and

Watching your entire team scatter to the four winds of the map. At tier 6+ you would expect players to realize this is a team game.

Cruisers and Destroyers didn't go hunt down an opponent team's destroyers in my case.

I have to tango with them nearly every battle...  on my Battleship.

  • Looking at the team on the loading screen and seeing that your DDs are all stock and the opposition have fully upgraded ones
  • CVs sending their planes around the edge of the map while the opposition CV planes are spotting in the Caps

When all of your DDs practically suicide within the first 3 mins of the game in a four-cap Domination match.

Might as well just quit and hop on another ship.

When there's a butt-ton of destroyers in the battle, which makes my job as a battleship slightly more difficult and is detrimental to my damage output because there aren't enough fleshy targets to shoot at.

Usually I see a problem when the slowest ships head for the edges of the map.  The US battleships that only can move at a speed of 21 knots have no business being too far from the middle of the map.  Going to the end of a map just means you won't help in the fight for the other side, and you're as good as a sunk ship at that point.  The battleships are more support ships than anything else, there to tank damage and drive away cruisers while our own cruisers and destroyers move in under their cover fire.

I also don't like to see destroyers just drive straight at the enemy.  Yes, I know they can be useful to spot enemy destroyers, but they don't need to be out so far that they can't get covering fire from our ships.

1.  Your carrier player isn't moving or launching planes.

2.  Your battleship player isn't moving at all.

3.  Your team is losing destroyers too quickly at the start of the game.

4.  Your team's highest tier battleship is headed to the flank side covered by mountains where there is little to no enemy there (Fault Line C point, North).

5.  Your team's battleship players are on the borders.

6.  The entire team heads east or west, leaving the other side undefended.

7.  You got your highest tier ships, especially destroyers, going into the middle of Two Brothers at the start of the game.

8.  Fail Division bringing a ship three or four tiers lower than the highest.

9.  Your team is arguing in the chat.

10.  Your team moves out from its spawn point in a radial or spread out fashion, rather than clusters of ships supporting each other.

On three-point domination, and the guys on the left are sailing to the far right and the guys on the right are sailing to the far left.  People really underestimate how much early capping puts a team ahead in points on those maps.

Pretty much anytime cruisers are ignoring enemy destroyers.

Pretty much anytime battleships are not interested in force projection and would rather daintily skirt the maximum range of their guns or outright flee from an inferior opponent.  Or when they take the absolutely longest possible route on the map edges when they do go through a flank.

I find about 70% fail rate when the Cruisers on a flank immediately leave to go to another spawn location leaving one side of the map void of any defense and open to flanking ambush.

Also anytime a cruiser doesn't follow and support the DD in that spawn location.

Not fighting on your flank except on large 3/4 cap maps is the best way to  screw your team.

Any time someone says it'll be fun.

I blow up.

Seriously.

I second this.  So long as I'm still alive, the game isn't lost yet.  I make it a point to be dangerous from the first moment my screws start turning.

Although my regular platoon-mates usually insist on a mix of classes within our own platoons, I disagree with this. I often see successful pairs of cruisers and destroyers. And I've seen triple-BB platoons dominate many a match.
