Sooo... I have a question, how many ships have your Nagato killed with SECONDARIES ONLY? Or seriously injured or worked down the HP of a ship before your team mate wrecked it? I'm currently sitting with 3 ships in one battle, 2 cruisers and a DD killed by my secondaries. (One cruiser was worked down from full HP. I can thank that Cleveland for being too close to me haha while I was working on another Cleveland with my mains. 7km range on secondaries is lovely. And then that 2k HP Nurnberg and finally later that game was a Farragut that got too close to me. She had only 5k HP left.)

Have you also seriously worked down the HP of an enemy BB with the help of your secondaries? There was one battle that I got around 15k damage from my secondaries because I got into a brawl with 3 different BBs haha I sank, but not before killing a North Cal.

Tell me your stories of your Nagato's secondaries being awesome.

Sank 3 ships via secondary batteries in a single battle thanks to them, I miss my Nagato but I don't have the credits to buy her back now thanks to going up several lines

Love it when the low hp dds try to sneak in close. She also saved my butt a couple of times when I've been caught reloading. Oddly the most ships I've sunk with secondaries is 2 in the Karl!??!?

I kill destroyers in ranked battles with Amagi secondaries regularly. All I have to do is dodge torps and stay in range. I cant stress enough how useful long range secondaries are in those ranked matches.

I think the only ship I have killed exclusively with the nagatos secondaries was a pensacola. Got in a 2vs1 with a Colorado and Pepsi, focused my secondaries on the Pepsi and the dueled with the colorado. By the time I had killed the BB with my main guns the Pepsi (who had started the engagement with full health) was dead.

I had a case in CBT where my Nagato squared off against a New Mexico and a Cleveland.  While I engaged the New Mexico with my primary battery the Cleveland closed into secondary range and was promptly wiped out.  It was slightly horrifying how swiftly they eviscerated what ostensibly is a pretty tough cruiser.

Had an Amagi match in CBT on Ocean where an enemy Nor Carl dropped connection during the match.  I wasn't going to waste my 16" on an empty boat but he was pretty close so I sorta sidled up to him while I engaged the active targets and again my secondaries obliterated him in short order.

Cleveland is strong in the hands of a good player but not because of its armor. It's armor is tissue paper.

But these stories are making me want a Nagato now.

Nagato and Amagi's secondaries are unique in that the 140mm guns fire AP, not HE like most other secondaries.  they are also far more accurate than most HE-slinging secondaries.  This puts them at a large advantage vs cruisers that show broadside at close range, as they get citadel'd.  however, they suck against BB's as they just plink off the armor and don't set fires.

Though to be fair, they're not useless against BBs.  The ones that fly into the superstructure add up.  I've had 11k damage from secondaries vs a tirp before.

I'm really not sure how that happened, but it did.

As for a recent Nagato secondary tale - 1 Prinz Eugen killed from 3/4.  He went broadside trying to torp me while I was closing in or a North Carolina.  The NC was distracted so I evaded the torps easy, and watched him melt before I could even figure out how to deal with him :P

This was after my secondaries had just dispatched an Aoba from 50% too.  Not sure what was up with CAs trying to torp that game.

Forgiving maybe more accurate.  The exposure mistakes that would get you insta citadeled in an IJN or DKM cruiser are not often as punishing due to the arrangement of Cleveland's citadel.

But yeah overall Nagato is pretty great.  Once you get the feel for her 16" guns they can reach out and punish pretty much everything she faces, the armor is typically sufficient when well angled and those secondaries are brutal when it comes to close action.

Never had them kill anyone before, but had a game where I was surrounded by two US DDs and one Russian DD.

They tried to come in close to torp me but they were probably discouraged by the secondaries that had a longer range than them.  Whatever they did launch, I was able to dodge.

I did 9k dmg with the secondary one game, brawling a North Cal , a Hatsu and a Cleveland started shooting and comming for my Nagato. prioritize the Hatsu an bowed on the Carolina while shooting the Cleveland :look:

After some torp hits and some dodging skills

Hatsu got killed by the sec , cit 2 times the Cleveland and another dd got the kill and rammed the Carolina :B

And a few hours ago

Kongo Cleveland and Nagato vs my Nagato

Bowed in the Nagato , x3 cit the Kongo and my secondary did 10k dmg on the Cleveland after i cit him once

Rammed the Nagato, somehow i get the Kongo kill ( maybe the sec did some work on him ) and the Clev got killd by a Aoba

Funniest kill I got was when I detonated a Nicholas with a single HE from my secondaries, he still killed me but I went down laughing. This was in my Wyoming

Last night I was in my Nagato on Hot Spot, went South from our spawn around the islands and squared off against an enemy Nagato, Kongo, and 2 Clevelands. I had a Cleveland and Atlanta as escorts, the Nagato and I exchanged a few shots as we closed distance with each other.

At 8k from each other the enemy Nagato decided to ignore me and focus the cruisers, so I closed distance and turned so we were side by side at 1k and he continued to ignore me. He managed to get the Cleveland before I took him down. The entire time my secondaries are going crazy firing in every direction. After the Nag went down I chose my next target, a Cleveland at 4k, and noticed he was at about 1/4 health, apparently my secondaries had been hammering him.I let the Atlanta finish that Cleveland off while I targeted the other that my secondaries had been hammering. Once both Clevelands were down we focused the Kongo that had been running away, I managed to get a double cit on the Kongo and he was down. In a matter of minutes the Atlanta and I had erased 4 ships and both of us were still above 1/2 health.

At this point an enemy DD and a New York were moving in on us. The Atlanta moved in to handle the DD while I engaged the New York. The Atlanta made quick work of the DD and I managed to citadel and sink the New York and therefore we won the match.

I think that has got to be the only time moving into a group of enemies has actually paid off for me. Honestly without the secondaries on the Nag being as good as they are, I'm certain I wouldn't have survived that match. I will say the sounds that match were intense, I don't think my secondaries stopped firing until we took on the DD and NY as they were out of range.

If only every BB had decent secondaries like the Nag's...

Nagato withholds secondary fun from me. I've killed ships with secondaries above and below her (Amagi and Fuso), but not with the Nagato. The positioning and then secondary RNG just never works out with Nagato.

Same thing just happened to me in my Arkansas Beta.

I was defending cap against a lone DD. I enter the cap and he comes out of the smoke toward me. I hold fire till he starts his turn. I fire a salvo and to my surprise he slowed down and I missed. With torps coming my way I knew I was dead with the guns reloading. Just before the torps hit me I see the DD gets detonated. The secondaries bailed me out big time. Hat's off to the DD player he was good.

I think my max is two in a battle, both dds. I had my secondaries firing on both sides of my ship and got both destroyers

Secondaries never give me anything to be pleased about. More often I'm just staring in awe as shells are fired everywhere but near the target.

Do you have the secondaries mod on? Because that increases their accuracy and RoF. Nagato, Amagi, Izumo and Yamato are really the only ships in the game where the accuracy mod is actually worth it. since these ships are pretty accurate to begin with, and since I have AFT on my Nagato, she starts to put the hurt on things from 7km away.

10k XP from Nagato. Sounds like she is a good ship. Was kinda worried about trading in 4 14"ers so I could have 8 16"ers but it sounds like with the secondaries she is a beast.

Her secondaries aren't her only good side. Those 16" guns pack a wallop, even a non-critical penetration can do around 5 - 8k damage with just a single shell, and if you manage to hit just right, you can deal a 13k hit with normal pens on just 4 shells. I once did a 20k normal hit when I hit with all 8 shells on a Tirpitz at 10km amid-ships haha. And hitting other BBs with a 40k citadel hit is ALOT of fun. I smile every time my guns hit haha

I havnt owned Kongo since cbt. But i can tell similar stories of the Tirpitz's secondary's. nothing warns your heart more than checking you battle damage and seeing that your secondaries alone did over 20k damage! :) Im sure the same happen with Nagato quite often... i do miss her

Can't wait then. I'm guessing the AA will be her Achilles Heel? Regardless sounds sweet. Yeah I have a Tirpitz too- they are deadly. One killed me day before yesterday because my Fusou forgot he had torps -.-

Actually the AA isn't bad and you can use the fighter plane. I don't usually worry too much about planes. Of course that might have something to do with the minute CV population as well.

One ranked match in Shatter, every red in the east had sunk or fled and we were well ahead on points and hulls, so I threw caution to the wind and took my Nagato into the center point, where a Blys and Benson were lurking. The Blys panicked and botched his torpedo salvos. Main battery savaged him, secondaries finished him. Benson was elsewhere while I capped, but apparently got beat up; he came around a corner at 3km with a few thousand health and secondaries downed him before he got torpedoes off.

All time high was something like 16-19k with secondaries. Couldn't describe the match for you, just lots of brawling as the top-tier bb.
