1,116 [BOSS] TurboT Beta Testers 2,762 posts 16,883 battles Report post #1 Posted January 8, 2016 So MUCH negativity in these forums of late I wanted to post something positive, and perhaps fun, to some. I finished the first ARP Mission tonight and received my shiney new ship. Must say, she looks pretty. I didn't expect much when the ARP Content was announced, because frankly, I'm old and am not much of an anime/cartoon fan. This is not to 'hate' on it, just to say it's never been in my realm of interest. I thought initially the content/partnership was kind of a flakey move. This game in my mind was built around historic naval vessels and not on cartoons. With that said, I've enjoyed the not too difficult, but somewhat challenging missions thus far. I say somewhat challenging only for the sake that most in the game are trying to accomplish them, and kills as mission counters are always a PIA. Simply because shooting down planes is in your control, as is doing damage or getting XP, but a lot of times kills are just the last shot on the ship, and if RNG gets you or you're reloading and someone snags that last shot, it kind of makes you go "ARRRRRRRRRRR!!!!" I'm finding the DD kill one to be more so annoying, because it requires more risk to your ship to bust into the spotting range of the DD, getting shot by others, and have someone else safely behind you getting the kill. It is what it is though, and it just will add to the sweetness pot when it's finally done and I can move on to the fire and damage portion of the Myoko mission. Moving on, the Kongo is a fine ship. You get a fully upgraded tier 5 BB, with a very snazzy looking skin on it. It really does pop and add some color to the game. With all the blue and grey tones of the game already, the popping purpley pink accents on the ship just make it pleasing on the eye to drive around. Tonight in my first battle, I had people wanting to 'die' so they could camera my ship to have a look at her. Granted I have been playing tier-7+ mostly to attain this ship, and haven't seen too many myself in battle as of yet. Another added bonus was the girl Captain voice over. I thought this also added a little needed spice to the game play. Here's my problem, I NEED SUBTITLES! I don't speak a word of Japanese. I have no freaking idea what she is saying other than its kinda cute sounding. Yes, I know that sounds silly, but a little cute when grinding in this game is probably needed.... now, I can figure out that she is most likely saying: "Torpedoes in the water!" "We're on fire!" "There is enemy spotted on the horizon." "We penetrated the ship!" Now these things I could figure out just because I know they are in the game already.... but there are other times it seems like she just blurts out random things. It makes me go looking for torps and I don't see any..... I could really use some darn subtitles so I knew just what was being said. I also noticed tonight in my second battle, that the fire smoke looks more cartoonish than normal. Maybe it was just me, but I took a screenie, and will post below. Anyone else notice a different look to the smoke? It also seems to be darker coming out of the stack as well. All in all, I do enjoy the flair and new content to the game..

I have to say that I'm rather enamoured with the look of these skins -- particularly the glowing markings and how they reflect upon the water. (I may have beached myself a couple of times because I was stuck looking at the shiny swirlies instead of minding where I was going). The Myoko is super pink with brilliant off-white patterns across her. On low lighting map, she's like a beacon. A lot of players are confused when they see the ship leading to some rather amusing conversations in chat. I hear you about the need for subtitles. I don't speak Japanese at all, knowing only a few turns of phrase picked up from movies (my father is a huge Zaitochi, the Blind Samurai & Akira Kurosawa fan, and I grew up watching these movies with him). Anyway, I made it a point to try and watch the Anime after hearing that they were doing a crossover with World of Warships and I haven't quite been able to stomach it. I'm not really good with harem / Shounen stuff, -- I like my female characters to have problems they can solve without needing the male lead to hold their hand through it. That said, it sounds like Iona (the female voice talent for the Captain) is referencing some of the techno-babble from in the series when she's saying her stuff in World of Warships. It would be neat to see it subtitled to understand exactly what she's saying.

I also agree that the fire, smoke, and engine smoke look different from the normal fires, smoke, and engine smoke. When I first heard the new voice, I thought that it was the coolest thing I heard in the game, besides the Yamato's guns firing.

I did thinkt the voice sounded like Iona's, but I am not enough of an expert to have made that claim. I understand your not stomaching it. In the first episode Iona meets the sub captain and says in numerous ways she is 'there to submit to his commands" Serve and Obey are also used. Coming from a visual cute as a button youngish looking girl character that is, dicey in my eyes as well. ...HOWEVER!! The ship looks fantastic and I'm glad I'm not the only one needing subtitles. However the female voice is not that of the captain you see but another vessel in the anime, and that's my biggest sticking point is that I was looking forward to hearing Kongous' way of talking, not Iona expressionless announcements. Subtitles. That's a nice idea though. I would back adding them

The VA herself may be perfectly talented, but Iona the character was the most painfully bland one on the show. Still looking forward to getting the ships, though. As for subtitles, that would definitely help a great deal. Especially if later on we get the option for realistic national voices like I hear they have in Tanks. It would be neat to see it subtitled to understand exactly what she's saying. Agreed, though I tried to focus more on the setting and the battles in the anime than the whole harem thing. And later you'll find a mental model who is enamored with Iona, so it's not just all guys leading the way. Plus you could argue that Kongo herself was a very strong-willed person who didn't need anyone. And then there's Maya... As for the voice acting, I do wish that I wasn't only hearing Iona and instead hearing the other characters. But then we'd be downloading 5x the audio files, possibly mushrooming the size of the overall game. And it's a lot of content for something that's optional and, as we have seen, a lot of people don't want. That said, if I had to choose anyone to hear in the game, it would be Iona. Her voice betrays little passion which fits the character well. Takao would be over the top, same with Kirishima. Haruna could work - I'd love to hear SHAQIM! when she gets a citadel hit (but that's not her character). Kongo would fit really nicely, but I wouldn't want her to VA the whole fleet. I've never heard Myoko, so I can't comment on that (is she in the new movies or something?). It is fun trying to learn what she's saying. For example, I've been able to piece together that she's saying "Incoming torpedoes! Klein field deployed and operating at 100%" or something of that nature. It's even more fun roleplaying in them in the chat. I always start with "Commencing operations. Deploying Klein field." Then, when engaging an enemy, "Target is a ____ class ____. Running assessment. A typical (nation) (class)." And, when destroyed "Target destroyed, searching for new target." It adds to the game and a few times I've even made enemies that I'm not shooting at make "OH, SHIII" turns.
