hey guy been grinding through the american bb line. right now i have the new mexico fully upgraded. i just cant do well in it. i had this ship during beta testing, and remember it being more accurate, and way faster turning. this thing at long range shoots all over the place. lucky if one shell hits. its still a tough ship, and slightly angled its armor is decent. i hardly get citadel penetrations, never had a one shot of a fully broadsided cl. maybe i remembering how it used to be, but for now i dont consider it a keeper.

I believe I have gotten about 2-6 citadel hits per match today. I not seeing any problem here

play some more and get the feel..............long shots are definitely luck (which I take quite a few with spotter in start of match), get in and brawl at 10K and under, then you will be rewarded

She's a great ship, a keeper and a beast.

To sell the NM is a WoWS sin & you'll be cursed with bad RNG forever.

Try firing all turrets at once instead of ripple fire. 12 decently placed shells has a better chance of critting than 3 here and 3 there.

i seldom ripple fire. hate seeing bbs doing that. also is it me or does this bb get turrets blown up often? i lose at least one if not two turrets every couple of matches.

i play it regularly, one of my keeper ships. long range can be affected by RNG with scatter shots, but then the next salvo will all land where i expect. its got 12 barrels, so cant be laser accurate otherwise it would be OP.

its a really fun ship...just got the fuso upgraded too and i find both to be equally fun, but for different reasons. NM is more of a close to mid range brawler, fuso a sniper.

It excels at 12 km and under...this is one boat I like the scout plane in. those awkward angles where they enemy is kiting one way or the other, it allows you to place each shot where it visibly makes sense. Also, nm's are ALWAYS the preferred target for dd's...over every other bb out there because they're so slow. just be facing the dd in question head-on whenever possible and use reverse every now and again to throw 'em off. You'll be one of the many nm lovers in no time once you get the feel. Good luck, and Fair Seas!

I've got the NM, Colorado, Fuso, and Nagato. Each of them can demolish a cruiser with a single well placed salvo. All of them are upgraded... didn't keep them stock for long.

I believe it's essential for ships, bbs, cruisers, dds, to focus fire. Going it alone will get your bb torped real quick. Success comes from support, and not everyone can win the kill award, but victory is the prize.

If you didn't play New Mexico since Update 0.5.0 then it's because WG fixed AP shells erroneously getting citadel hits when they hit the armor belt (the shell would bounce inside the ship until it struck the citadel or something like that).  Just aim a little lower and you'll land them just fine.  Now that I learned that, I'm averaging more cits per game than before the patch.

I've noticed this since 0.5.2, that I have been getting destroyed turrets a lot more often. Don't know if WG actually did anything, or if people are just playing differently. But it's really frustrating when you lose both your front turrets heh.

Anways, the New Mexico is my shining star. I love her. She's an absolute brawler, and I find that any ships that get in my sweet range of 13-15km often end up with many citadels and death. I've taken out full health Omahas and Koenigsbergs in one salvo to much saltiness and tears. Clevelands are also not much of a match against her when used properly. I also find that I have very little issue against Tier 7 BBs such as the Colorado.

Learn to angle your armor, and only go broadside when the other ship has fired their salvo and yours is ready.

New Mexico is definitely THE close range Brawler. Specially the citadel armor is super strong, as pointed out in this Review/Guide:

NM was the first ship that I regularly lost turrets on. Part of it is based on engagement range opening up quite a bit at tier 5-6. I noticed the same thing in Colorado but rarely (maybe twice in 50 games) lose a turret in North Carolina.

My first experience with New Mex and Colorado was on the public test, where I found the colorados faster reloading and bigger guns to be much more enjoyable than the guns on new mex. Now that I have them both on live, its a tougher call. I still prefer the colorado under ideal circumstances, but new mex's matchmaking allows it to end up in those circumstances much more. My colorado gets into a lot of tier VIII and IX games and is just too slow, and with too short a range to be competitive there. And now that I have learned New Mex's gun handling, she does very well. I like both but New Mex gets better targets.

Despite the fact that my New Mexico is getting the kills and dishing out the damage, I'm averaging a win rate of only 38%.  I'm thinking that while it's an excellent combat ship, the lack of speed means it can't get to the caps in time to make a difference to the battle outcome.  You'll trash the ships you'll come across, but it'll probably be in a losing battle.

You have to not wait in the rear to form up a battle line with the rest of the BB's on your team. I see this happening far too often. It gets the DD's and cruisers of your team killed because the BB's have wasted too much time and are not close enough to provide support. A close formation of BB's is inviting mass torpedo attacks as well. Instead, link up with the DD's and cruisers closest to you. Close in to a decisive range, help your cruisers and DD's by killing the enemy cruisers before the enemy BB's arrive. Your cruisers and DD's can handle the enemy DD's if they don't have to worry about the enemy's cruisers hammering them. THEN, your team can focus fire and kill the enemy BB's that have finally arrived.

I know everyone say the NM is great but I have a hard time with her. I much prefer Fuso and I rarely loose to a NM in a 1v1 fight. Now maybe I am just lucky with who I have faced but For me at least it is Fuso. The gun handling on the NM is just terrible as is the range and speed. I have researched the Colorado but still have not bought it do to its bad rep.

I am a DD player. By no means a BB driver, but of all my BBs (I do have several) I like New Mexico the most. It is a beast, followed by Nikolai IMO.

Like the NM though the grind up to Colorado sucks. Frequently get citadel hit's at 10-12km. Went toe to toe with a Fuso, and despite being down a turret would have won had it not been for the other NM who wasn't on my side that I rammed.

welli 'm now well into the colorado grind and i must say she is a fine ship and vastly better than the new mexico. i can actually hit targets at range and almost every hit on a cl is and auto citadel hit. love it. on a side note a fuso is an easy kill one on one. i  solo took one out from full health in my nikoli simply keeping my bow on him, letting him shoot, then turning and letting him have it. fusos armor is kinda weak.
