Any better way to change targets?

One of the things that frustrates me most in this game is when my targeting locks onto a ship I don't want to attack and I can't get them to lock onto the ship I do want to attack.  This is especially frustrating when I'm trying to use torps without being seen.

 

For example:  I want to launch torps at that slow BB who's straight lining, but the game insists I target the nearby CA who's swerving all over the place.

 

So far all I can figure out is to either start shooting my guns at the ship I want to attack, which basically ruins my plan to stealth torp him, and may get me killed by his CA buddy. Or I just have to wait for the guy to be alone enough that he is the only one in view while zoomed way in, which might make me miss the opportunity, and also is dangerous because I lose situational awareness while being zoomed in on 1 enemy.  I like to play my DDs as close as their Detection range will safely allow, so I like to constantly be scanning the distances to every nearby ship, not tunnel visioning on one.

 

I see no "cycle target" or "change target" options listed in the control settings.  If there isn't a button for this, I'm gonna copy-paste this right into the Suggestions forum.

Hit 'X', is still a hit or miss proposition. Sometimes it works....sometimes it doesn't. But in all cases, it uses valuable time that often makes the difference between life and death. Even the automatic targeting doesn't necessarily target the closest target, nor does hitting X necessarily target the ship that you have your cursor on.

Thanks guys.  I feel so stupid now, but am happy to look a fool if it means I can target who I want.

 

(over 2000 battles and I didn't figure that out.  I am SOOOOOOOOOOO dumb).

If firing torps you can put the torp "aiming" line (red line when you are in torp mode) on the ship you want and hit x. And you ain't dumb. Just been playing one innefective way so long and finally got tired of it. I'm sure many have been there, done that - me included.

Change your right mouse button to the X key then you can just mouse over to the target and click
