Played a couple of games in my Farragut alongside my buddy in his Myoko.  We had a couple of outstanding games, not necessarily in points but in gameplay.  We held the rear guard and kept 3 enemy DDs and a Cleveland trapped in some islands, whilst our team shredded their main fleet.  It was fun to keep a Farragut, Hatsuharu and a Kiev bottled up in the islands where they couldn't wreak havoc or even get close to our cap point.

I'm thinking that the USN DDs (and possibly VMF) can really shine in this regard...when played alongside a cruiser.  Though the points/silver reward isn't always going to be outstanding, the contribution to the victory is quite significant.

I mention this because I have a huge amount of trouble adjusting from IJN to either USN/VMF DDs.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?  Experiences?

In higher tiers having a CA/DD wolfpack can actually net you quite a bit in the way of credits/ rewards, the DDs can hunt down other DDs for better than a CA can and spot torps for the bigger ship in advance while the CA brings those big 8 inch guns to the party that can slaughter any DD it hits, with two sets of HE rounds coming in you have a higher chance of killing something important like the rudder which makes him (the enemy) easy prey.

when I div with my buddy  we do the same thing... if he takes a cruiser I take  a DD, and we usually do well to keep the enemy DDs at bay while our cap ships wreak havoc

Yes I have done

Yes the USN DD should do this

That is why they are known as Escort Destroyers or DE's as well.
