Which Russian DDs are best and which are the worst?

Consider [1] which Russian DDs perform best for their respective tiers (against all ships that they're likely to face) and [2] how that performance stacks up against other DDs in the Russian line.

I just want to make sure I'm not in for one long grind before starting the Russian DD line.

Thank you!

The RU DD line has been anything but a "grind" for me. I've enjoyed every ship so far. Some may seem a little weak for the tier (Ognevoi), but it just takes a little adjustment.

As long as you go in with the attitude of "these are gun boats and the torps are extremely situational" then you'll enjoy it. If you try to build your match strategy around using the torps, you'll get very frustrated very quickly.

So far:

Izyaslav and Kiev are the sweet spots.

Izyaslav:

Has great guns, great fire rate and good range. It is not super maneuverable and takes some practice to command. Izya is a great anti DD ship, as well as Kiev, but in the middle of the battle, while other ships are busy shooting at each other, can deliver a great deal of damage/fire BBs and CAs.

Kiev is a ,simply put, Russian azz kicker, combined with increased range captain perk it can whoop [edited]and chew bubble gum, but it needs to always maneuver, just like Izyaslav.

If you want to use torps with Russian DDs, then please move to another tech tree, because it is not gonna happen and you will be qqing how RU DDs are bad. Torps could be used as an alamo stand, when there is no way you can run and have the last possibility to fire a close range torp salvo at an enemy ship before you are destroyed.

I will second Izy and Kiev (I have not progressed past Kiev yet so I can't comment).

I sold Gnevni due to its very slow rotating turrets which precludes a knife fight. Shooting other DDs from range it is very good, due to USN DDs high arc. Close up with a Nicholas, not so good.

Ognevoi is decent, guns are good, speed - as in all RU DDs - is good, but (and a big one): the 2x2 layout is bad. It loses turrets fairly often. You lose one turret, you lose 50% of your power. Once or twice I lost both, suddenly finding yourself in a fast boat that can only cap but can't shoot back (forget the torpedoes - they are a secondary weapon at best). Sold it when I got Kiev.

Izy is fun. Storo I skipped so I can't comment. Derzki has a special spot. It has the worst guns in the game and torpedoes are only 3km. Bad boat? Maybe. It is insane fun to YOLO and do suicide runs as it has 5 torpedo launchers with an insane reload rate. *if* you can get within 3km (and that's a big if with experienced players, but at that tier...) if you ripple-fire, by the time the last launcher is empty, the first one is about reloaded so you can almost do continue torp fire. Insane fun at low tiers.

So far, Ognevoi and Tashkent are the two biggest  Pieces of Feces I have experienced in the RU Line.     Tashkent is such a down grade from the Kiev.

kiev, even with nerf can be quite effective.    but avg is down quite a bit from previous, even though I am doing quite well.

Mine's down but still doing well, had to adjust play style, not as gung-ho as before with 3K less health.

Also, Tash isn't a bad ship, it's a piece of crap when stock though. I know the pain and it is real. I finally gave in and bought doubloons and respecced my captain and got AFT, that alone with gun range upgrade turns into an entirely new ship. Going from a gun range of 10.5 km to 13.9 km opens up so many new possibilities, I swear it feels like the Tash starts more fires then my Kiev.

with kiev,  because of arp mission, I've been using just fire rather than mix of fire/ap.  even so, i am averaging over 40k dmg where last week server average is onlly 27k.    AFT is a must though.  and     it is lot of run and gun from 10-14km.        plus fair amount of situation awareness and good decision making.      stick with the group though.  you are most effective if you do.

Don't even go past the Kiev.  I can't say if the Udol and Karl is good, but the Tashkent is such a huge steaming pile of crap, it's not worth it unless you can free XP the whole ship.  The Kiev even after the Nerf is by far superior than the Tashkent.

The HE wont do any more damage than 550ish average,  every hit to it  knocks out every module and at least 1 gun,   this ship is no gun boat with 11.6km range, the turn radius is bad. The ONLY thing this ship has is speed, but due to range of it's guns, the speed is pointless, at 11.6km EVERY ship including Battleships can easily pop you without any trouble.

The T5 Gnevny is averaging about the exact same statistics as this T8.   This ship is on level with the worst ships I have ever played in this game, and that is pretty much EVERY German ship thus far.

To be fair, Russian DDs really aren't meant to be all the great in those min range knife fights.  You want to do your damnedest to keep the range open.

HOWEVER.... if you end up at really short range, spam your torps ahead of the enemy DD you're fighting.  Don't bother aiming perfectly,  Just whatever spread they're set at, and aim decently ahead, and spam away.  The idea is to either force them to stop shooting and turn to avoid the torps or nail them with one of your torps for a quick kill.  Other than catching a CV cold at short range, anti-DD torp spam may be the best use of Russian DD torps.

Gremy is the best for sure and Kiev still being good after nerf.

Khrab become the worst if compare to same tier of USN and IJN than other tiers of Russian.

Thank you for everyone's feedback. I was trying to decide which destroyer to train my Murmansk captain on (he now has 15 skill points).

Since I don't want to grind up to a Kiev, I decided on the Izy, which I already own.

I would say Izy and Kieb are fantastic, the rest seem to vary but there are no under performers unless you compare Gnevy to the Gremy at T5.
