So I was taking out my Kongo Arp ship for a spin and I clearly citadel a kuma with multiple shots yet the game acts there just normal damage. Sorry for terrible quality but the citadel shots start 1:20.

I am so confused you can't over pen a citadel shot can you?

I just got deleted in my Kuma yesterday by an ARP Kongo by a triple front citadel. So I'm pretty sure they can get citadels. Sounds like RNG was just being mean there.

yes you can overpen a citadel, but I don't see any that should have hit the citadel in the first place out of those two 1/2 salvos.  your hits were too high.

Those weren't citadels.  They land too far behind the smokestacks.  Plus you aim a bit high.  Aim at the waterline.  That should send more of your shots where the citadel is located.

I believe it is possible to overpen a citadel on really lightly armored ships.  But under the conditions that you show, I'd get at least one citadel even if the others overpen.

That first shot at 1:37-1:38... (the one that didn't go over the ship and also didn't impact it) that was RIGHT on the waterline, but it just splashed and disappeared. No hit marker at all. I know a good portion of a ship has to be underwater to keep it up right and WG said they fixed the issue with shots disappearing when they touch water. So why didn't that shot get at least a hit ribbon? At that range with those caliber of shells, a foot of water or less would not slow down a shell with a pointed tip enough to stop it dead in its tracks.

Same deal with 2:28-2:29 (though that one looks like it hit further away from the ship than 1:37).

because while it looked "right at the waterline", it likely was actually short.  I've had plenty of shots that look like they were "right at the waterline", but when I go back and look at it in a replay, they are actually well short.  camera angle is bad to see it, having the replay or using the shell follow camera would be helpful.

Citadels are an RNG thing, just like everything else. You can hit them all you like, but they just won't register a hit if RNGesus doesn't feel like it.

My barrels are in the water trying to citadel an Aoba who's got his crew on deck swinging Katanas at my crew drinking from their vodka bottles. Fire nine 12" shells into his perfect broadside at point blank range.

1 citadel. 5 bounces. and the other ones splash the water.

RNG sometimes feels like an Aoba's armor, on broadside, can stop 12" shells from a Nicolai at [edited]-swinging range.

I feel the same way too LOL. I tried to fire at a cleveland in my Kongo before at around 11km. First salvo with his ship perfect parallel to mine, 3 hits, no citadal. Second Salvo with his ship pointed at me, 1 regular hit and 1 Citadal... so RNGesus will give you whatever (he/she ?!) likes.

Had this exact same experience multiple times with Omahas, Aobas, Konigsberbs and Nurnbergs. Broadisde bounces/overpens, and straight nose/rear on citadels. Nothing gets my blood boiling more than watching my Warspite bounce waterline shots off an Aoba that is broadside.

Glorious Nippon steel!

Folded over 1000 times!

Katana can deflect puny battleship shells!*

Guaranteed to work or your credits back!

*Disclaimer: Imperial Japanese Navy will not accept liability in the event the crew are alcoholically intoxicated and not swinging their katanas properly according to provided instructions.

Perfect Aim + Broadside + Mid to short range: RNG laughs in your face :teethhappy:

Fleeing ship wildly maneuvering and 1,500 or less HP remaining: RNG 's me because Citadels occur far more frequently for me when "finishing" a near dead ship.

Always seems like a troll and a waste of a good hit. It's weird that this happens so frequently and desired citadels with optimal conditions rarely do.
