Wickes= Best Seal Clubber

Please understand, I don't condone seal clubbing  - but after more than a dozen games in the tier 4-7 range with Fusos, Nagatos, Isokazes, Nicolai, Konigsberg, Murmansk, Marblehead, Nicholas, and Kongo, I just kinda gave up and submitted to the torpedo-vomiting monster seal-clubbing-doom-spewer.

Is Wickes a good ship?  A good seal clubber?  I do not know how accurate it is but WarshipsToday has it listed at just a 47% win rate.  That is at the bottom of the barrel.  I thought about getting it but went with Isokaze and I am doing pretty good in it for a guy who had never played DD's until a few weeks ago.  Even I (47% player) am usually able to make it work.  It's a little monster.

I use Umikaze for these games. Might have to buy me a Wickes!

I called them the worst players Iv'e ever seen, because they are the worst players I've ever seen, even in low tier games like this. I didn't say it in all chat, I just said it to my team, once. I'm sorry if you took a barrage of wickes torpedoes up your bum, but it's your fault, not mine.

Most people tend to skip the tier 3 ships (other than the St. Louis,) and they play them as a chore. The Wakatake is worse than both the Umikaze, and the Isokaze, the battleships are all forgetful, the Tenyru is awful, and the russian DD feels lacking (at least, to me it does.) 

 

The Wickes however gets that wonderful 2x3 5.5km torp spread, "decent" guns. But, it also gets Big Race, Islands, Solomon Islands. The three best maps for destroyers - and gets them often. 

 

Whenever I'm in a DD on Big Race, I'm straight into the bay. And with the Wickes 12 torps, it's great at zone control and overlapping torp spreads to ensure hits with wide or narrow spreads.

wickes is a ultra seal clubber.   I've been thinking about buying it  again. I only used it for few games but it was just easy.     I mean aurora is also good seal clubber, but not like wickes.   Low winrate is due to noobs, but in the hand of capable,  it is great tool

All those torps are great but pretty short range.  Isokaze has 7k torps.  Guess you must have to be pretty clever and stealthy to get all that torp devastation in range.  I have killed quite a few Wickes before they could get close enough to use torps.  I may try it on down the road.

While the ship itself isn't borderline OP, I agree with Wickes being my sweet spot too. 

 

In fact, all my low tier USN DDs are damn decent stat-wise. As I move up to T5, I began to find myself relying on my team to, um, not suck so much.

 

Im looking forward to tier 7 where your top range finally beats your detection range.

Wickes is The Bomb.  Two banks of torps on each side and a reasonably fast reload.

Easily my favorite T3.

Play smart and with a good captain the seals will be yours.

More Wickes fun (BB dispersion for me has been terrible this patch, I've retired my battleships mostly. Also, landing 4, 5, and 6-shell salvos from an Arkansas Beta onto the broadside of a Furutaka and dealing ZERO damage, is very frustrating to see. Zero damage...broadside. Why WG?)

Isokaze is a tier 4, Wickes is a Tier 3.  What I don't understand, is why the Wakatake, for some reason, has less health than all the other DD's at the same tier. Gets 7k torps, but only 4 of them.
