Hey, so I was pondering whether to get the Atlanta or not. It is expensive, but I do need another way to get xp. Right now I'm at the Pensacola, and I can't stand the thing. And, I've watched people play the Atlanta in games with me, and I've played against a few. And they are fire monsters. But, I don't know if I should get it or not. So here are a few questions.

  • Does it give a lot of Free XP?
  • Does it give a lot of Credits?
  • How much fun is it?
  • What other advantages does it give?
  • What American Cruiser is most like it? (i.e. Cleveland, Pensacola, Omaha, etc.)

Thank you so much!

I don't own one, but I do know that they have massive citadels, not much HP, the guns have awful shell arc and do pitiful damage. On the bright side, pretty fast, torpedoes (even if they are bad), ridiculous RoF, strong AA, and good credit earning. Decide for yourself.

free xp is based off of normal xp, 5% i think... I have the ship its fun but annoying at the same time..credit wise it does real well but the gun arc is like throwing softballs underhand...shame they don't have a rent it for the weekend thing before you buy...hey what an idea

Rate of fire comparison is similar to a Cleveland. Glass hull comparison it is similar to a Pensacola. It can produce fires quite easily with HE but I have yet to get a single Citadel with mine. The same 127mm main guns as the Cleveland with a few more and torps, but they aren't worth relying on as they are short range and if anything gets close enough you're already dead with your glass hull.

Best to play it with other ships in front of you to draw attention and fire, then you can play flame-thrower when a target gets into range. She is fast but tricky to play and stay alive with. Think of her more like a large unconcealable DD than a Cruiser. She can be great as a CV escort, but most people will never play her as su h, she has good AA and can easily lay the smack down on any DD's on a search and destroy carrier quest.

Not a huge XP getter unless maybe I. Co-Op, but points are less there anyway. If you want a points/XP machine, look for something else, I use my Tirpitz as it is a damage dealing machine if you can manage her horizontal shot displacement well enough. There are probably other choices too such as maybe a specific DD, but I have gottem the majority of my free XP's from my St Louis, Cleveland and Tirpitz. My Cleveland skipper is a Commodore right now.

The good:

WITH premium time, it basically prints credits, low repair cost which means more credits in your pocket. It has the 50% XP earning free camo so if you like using doubloons to transfer xp to free xp, it works wonders (my Atlanta has like 200k of convertable XP). It fits any USN captain. Seems to see more tier tier 6 and 7s than 8 and 9s (completely subjective, it just feels like it), when played properly, extremely fun. If you know how to play USN DDs, you might actually enjoy this ship. Unlimited AA defensive fire

The Bad:

It doesn't carry its own weight as a tier 7. It dies ridiculously fast. Tier 6s can outgun you if you are caught of guard. The ship will be useless to you if do not know how to plan or play to its strengths. 11 second rudder shift time, 32kts max speed means you wont be dodging anything but the most long range BB shells. its spotted at 11k and has a max range of 11km. Even with AFT, it only goes up to about 14 km but flight time goes up to about 16 seconds for the shells to land. AA, on paper its fine but really only useful during AA defensive fire.

Would I recommend it? If you are planning on pushing USN DD lines, yes because they share similar captain abilities or if you plan on moving a lot of captains around since PvE is always an option as well

Just to correct a couple of statements above, the Atlanta does have 127mm (5") guns, but the Cleveland has 152mm (6" guns).  Likewise, the Rate of fire on the Atlanta is faster.  The Cleveland has a base reload of 7.5 seconds and can be dropped to 6.75 seconds with Main Battery Modification 2.  The Atlanta's base reload is 5" and can be dropped to 4.5 seconds with the same modification.

I beg pardon, main guns on the Cleveland are 6", the secondaries are the 127mm...I confused them, my bad

I would not recommend it.  The fewer people buy it, the more likely we can get it fixed.

I bought it just before xmas along with 14 days premium time.

  • Free xp is based on that % of real xp you get.
  • If you can start getting hits with those "garden hoses", you will get lots of credits. Over 100,000 per game even on regular account.
  • It is a support ship that is not meant to be in the front. Fun starts when you catches somebody shooting at other ships and you just hose down on it.
  • Advantages: fast firing destroyer dual turrets. You have 3 turrets facing your bow or stern. You can have 3 salvos on the way for the long range.
  • It is similar to the Cleveland. Cleveland also have those destroyer turrets but you cannot really control them.
