I got a Langley (yuck) and it's stock (kill me please) but even so I'm averaging only a couple torpedo hits per game, and I feel I should be doing more. I can't manual drop for the life of me and I'm also pretty bad at using fighter barrage, although not as bad as manual torp drops. Any tips as to not being a free pinata of xp and credits? I just want to get through to the Bogue and it's superiority loadout so I don't have to worry about torp dropping...

Well... Langley is a lemon. Hosho is much better. A coupla torp hits a bad for a starter, just keep practicing. Practice won't make perfect, but it WILL make you better. With only one TB squadron I can't see more than 6-8 hits a game unless BB's sail straight and dumb.

I would have chosen the Hosho, I know for a fact it's a better CV as I used it briefly in the CBT, but I need to get the Bogue to finish ARP Kongo II...

If you are going up the entire CV line you need to learn how to TB. If you dont want to practice in co-op, which I wouldn't want to either, lol, then just get the Hosho as well as the Langley and put alot of time into them both until you get a feel for manual drops. If you don't eventually figure it out then you probably won't get much enjoyment out of CVs. There are some really great youtube videos out there that explain and show you how to manual drop. One or two of those should be enough to get you off to practicing right. Don't worry though, once you get a good manual drop or two it will start to become like riding a bike.

I'm only going up to the Bogue, getting the superiority loadout, finishing ARP Kongo II, then selling it and cleansing my soul (I despise playing CVs). I'll have to check out some torp drop videos since I'm no good at it, and I'm going to need to learn it even if I'm only going to use it briefly. I just wish that the Zuiho had a good AA loadout, because the Langley is just... not good.

Welcome to the life of an American carrier. Learn your fighter. You should be strive to trade 1 to 1 fighters with any equal tier carrier. If you go strike for Indy or Bogue you will have a very sad life unfortunately because air superiority will rekt you. So I prefer balanced or superiority since I hate being anyone's plaything

CV, or not CV - that is the question:

Whether 'tis nobler in mind to suffer

The bombs and torpedoes of outrageous fortune

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles

And by opposing nerf them.

You need the Langley upgrades immediately

- Hull B - more health.  Increased plane reserves.

- Fighter upgrade - Faster fighters.  More durable.  More damage.

- TB upgrade - Faster TB's.  More durable.  Better torpedo damage.

Upgrade Modules

- +10% Aircraft Gun effectiveness

Captain Skills

- Tail Gunner - can sometimes knock off those pesky scout fighters.

Are you not leading enough? Leading too much? Dropping too close or too far away? I need details before I can help you. Also, I never use Fighter Barrage. I suck at it too.

That said, 5 - 8 torpedoes is about what you'd usually get in the Langley.

The planes are really slow.

- there's lots of opposition that you have to sneak around because your planes are delicate.

- You have to clear the way of enemy fighters and float planes before they reach your bombers and mess things up.

- your targets are usually paying attention,

- there's always a pesky destroyer that comes chasing after you that you'll waste one or two torp runs on but never hit.

The trick is to deny the other carrier so that he has just as much of a lackluster performance as you.
