Am I right to remember that it said there would be a flag for those who participated, given out after the event finished ?  Yes I know it's not a big deal I'm just wondering if it will be a pirate Santa ?

Fair point, however I wasn't alive for either, I just had a good history teacher and a fine propensity to do my own research on things that catch my eye.

Same, history was always been something I enjoyed looking into and researching when I could as a kid. It is amazing some of the stuff that isn't taught anymore.

Just be glad you don't live in texas, some places teach the religious perspective of history over the factual. More to the point, flag hand now please.

I grew up in California, there was no teaching there, just indoctrination. Why I lived on the History channel and hanging out with old WWII vets and such growing up. Learning from the people who experienced the history I was interested in was absolutely amazing and probably some of my fondest memories.

It was to be awarded after the event. The events last day was the 4th. One day to scrub the data get the list and make it available today. I think that was pretty dang fast.

Except they didn't say 'after' the event is over, they said 'when' the event is over.

 

After the event is over implies that some time may pass between the end of the event and the awarding of the flags.

 

When the event is over implies that the end of the event and the awarding of flags will happen simultaneously.

 

I know its a trivially small bit of semantics, but I'd assume the wordsmiths at WG writing the news releases would know the difference and not be ambiguous about things. It would sure reduce the number of "the event is over, where's my flag" posts.
