CV tactics question

I bet this might spark a debate of sorts, so keep your minds open will you?

Anyway, for some reason decided to return to my Langley, did a couple co-op missions and a few Random battles (finally got the hang of timing the TB's manual drop). A couple things interested me:

First, the reserves are faster than the entire squadron getting destroyed. Unknowingly sent my fighters against a Bogue's fighters, lost all of them quickly as well as my TBs, the reserves deployment took longer; fighters and TB are ready to take off after 12 and 26 seconds, but a full squadron from the reserves takes like 2x longer. So a tactic w/ Langley is to bring what's left of the squadron and refill from the reserves--viable tactic w/ the other US CVs? Not expecting to get into the IJN line.

Another curious point is CV's battleground is the whole map. Bit disorienting after fighting in DD/CA/BB for so many battles. Most of my time seems to be spent shoring up a flank to protect against enemy bombers, baiting fighters, as well as timing my TB for some damage. Far as I can tell, it seems the CV's role in matches where both teams are slugging it out is to keep enemy bombers ineffective as well as precise bomber strikes to help keep the enemy off-balance. I know from my Myoko that forcing enemy dogfights over friendly AA is a big help even if it's just a couple DDs.

Want to be reasonably effective next time in the Langley. Not that exp with CVs, and last match was a loss maybe partly from my lack of CV experience. Wasn't easy to guess what enemy ships to target with my TBs, even though I did work out how to time the manual drop on TB. Later had to land my fighters to refill their ammo, and the enemy Bogue grabbed the chance to bomb a couple teammate BBs to Davy Jones; they spent the rest of the match crying about my lack of skillful CV playing even though I had told them I needed to refill my fighters' ammo (down to the 1/5 marker after fighting destroying one fighter squadron and chasing off 3-4 DB/TB groups).

Last big patch changed so digging a whole new squadron out of reserves is much slower than servicing a partial squadron to encourage people to not suicide one or two plane squadrons to get faster turnaround.

Fighters can do a lot, but if the battleships are off on their own, they're very hard to keep alive.

Yeah I had forgotten about iChase's videos, so watching his CV academy now. Didn't know I could squad up my air groups or hold down alt to make corrections as well the the dotted line crossing being a "committed to it now sir."

I think it's still faster unless you're attacking a target across the map.  After all, turning around a depleted squadron still has a cooldown time which is included in the time needed for digging a squadron out from reserve.

It's not like they take a minute to dig the squadron out and then another 30 second cooldown starts which is used to rearm the planes.

I'd rather conserve my planes unless the reward/situation is able to justify risking them. Can't buy planes during a battle.

It's better to have spare planes and not need them than need spare planes and not have them <_<

Yay more CV players :honoring:

First thing you need to do is master manual drop. Proper manual drops against BBs can easily win you the game because USN torps are so devastating. Heres a good guide I used when I was learning cv: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/29860-cv-expert-guide/

Second, learning to conserve planes is very important. In the langley and the bogue your only real threats are enemy fighters. once you start getting into tier 6+ matches you will begin to feel the pain of AA. Ships like the cleveland absolutely shred low tier planes, and some BB's even get some pretty effective AA. I find that the best part of carrier's is the midgame to endgame, because all the enemy ships are spread out and isolated allowing you to pick ships off with minimal AA resistance. So, the more planes you have in your reserve as you approach this phase, the better.
