Ship speed change

It's really just a question, more or less. Couldn't find anything on it.

I've noticed through several battles that without any input, any islands nearby, any "autopilot", or any turning, that my ship (regardless of class) will suddenly slow down, even though the throttle is still at full.

Has anyone noticed this, or is it something I'm doing? I'd rather like that not to happen when I'm trying to avoid a salvo of torpedoes.

I'll try to get a screenshot of this, just for clarification.

Can't say I've ever seen or experienced it. Are you sure you're actually slowing down and it's not some hardware lag on your end? Sometimes that "slows" time a bit.

Sounds like the auto pilot but I don't remember that changing the speed

I would hope not. XD I just spent a good amount upgrading my equipment. But it's a noticeable drop, like going 27km in the Atlanta to some 10km, although it's still at full.

If all your auto-pilot and evasion stuff is disabled, you'll only slow down when you adjust the throttle, turn, or get flooding O_o

As I said. None of that was present. IT was literally a straight line, and the ship just slowed down without any input.

I was gonna say collision avoidance, but OP did say there's no land nearby... I'm stumped until we get replays.

I might suspect it's the auto collision avoidance, so I've turned that off, just in case it thought a wave was too big.

I'll continue to play and see if I can get it to repeat the action.

I know if you are constantly making turns to avoid incoming fire, you slow down noticeably. However I never use auto pilot

This may have nothing to do with what you are experiencing, but this happened to me several times today, and I've experienced it before. Here's what happens. My ship was sailing merrily along when all of a sudden the ship stops in its tracks. Oddly, the water and other ships are still moving. I have no control of my shipin any way. More often than not I get disconnected and have to log back into the game. It's very frustrating. I heard others were having connection problems this morning as well. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with your issue.

I do not use auto pilot and in my DD when I am going toward say.... an island.  At some point in time it it WILL slow down (and have the noise that goes with it) and it would start to steer to one side.

Yup, this is probably the culprit... happened a number of times to me this morning and then again later tonight when I tried again.

Nothing to do with anything on my end nor my ISP... and as everyone got booted from a couple of games on both teams, it most likely is happening on the server side.

Saw some really bad, horrible lag tonight too...

When I returned to one of my games, after getting booted, my guns kept firing on their own. I could aim them though, and avoided any friendly fire. Left clicking stopped it, but it sure freaked me out for a minute.

Thats the auto collision avoidance, which you can disable in settings if you want.  Unrelated to autopilot.

It only works on the DD from what I can tell and has not prevented me from hitting ships (rare - but it happens or gets realllllly close).
