97 [BOAR] Jammin411 Members 255 posts 2,612 battles Report post #1 Posted January 5, 2016 I don't want to spam you guys, but wanted to let you know about I site I am putting together. Lots of features to add still, but far enough along to start showing it off. WoWReplays.com is a site that allows you to upload your replay files to the world. When you upload a replay the system strips out the information that is available inside of the file like the teams, your ship, the map, and more and makes that available as well. You can add a title and a user description that is shown to everyone so they have a general idea of what the replay is all about. Once the file is uploaded I then take the replay, add some commentary and convert it to a video so you do not need to download the replay to view the game. Unless you want to. You can thumb up/down as well as download the raw replay file if you want to keep a copy of it for yourself. I have a huge range of features that I will be adding in the coming weeks, but like I said, I wanted to let you all know about the site and start getting the word out. I hope you enjoy and feel free to give me feedback on the site. I'm happy to modify it to your needs. After all, the site is for the community. http://WoWReplays.com

I didn't reach out to see if I could purchase it from them because I found WoWReplays.com instead. I'll reach out and see if a deal can be struck!

I put the version number on the replay and that is also part of why I do the videos on them as well. It allows them to be saved forever regardless of the version they were recorded on. I'm going to try and keep up with that while I can at least. After I may have to just do the most popular replays instead of all of them. Plus, it's pretty fun watching all of these replays and commenting on them. Thanks for the heads up though, appreciate it.

These steps were accomplished: - Check version - Send replay to correct WoWs folder - Use the command prompt to start WorldofWarships exe with the replay as the argument These steps need to be determined: - Hook the video capture software to the newly started WoWs window - Detect when replay is complete - Find the newly created video file - Automatically upload the video file to a video sharing site with the necessary file details and stuff. - Grab the upload link and store in the wowreplay database. Maybe you can have another field that allows you to link a youtube video to the replay. In case that player has made their own video already. 1,466 [KTKM] IKU19 Beta Testers 4,633 posts 4,078 battles Report post #15 Posted January 5, 2016 To OP: The replay format is changing at around the spring patches so don't be shocked and shout "WG hates me!" when the replay format suddenly has different data and breaks your site. Though it should fix the "can only run with the same version" issue. Bad translation also says that they're making their own replay hub.

I was wondering about whether that stuff had to be handled "manually", or if the capture software had the hooks to do it for you.

When all else fails you can just make an AutoHotkey macro to press the keybind to record.

I've looked into this a bit to see if I could automate it. I think it can be, but there are a lot of moving parts. The first issue is that you can only have one replay running at a time on the server which means a backlog gets generated incredibly quickly. That's probably the biggest issue to overcome, but there are other technical issues as well, server power is one of them.

I assume the owners of that site looked into this as well and it just wan't feasible. I'm happy to entertain ideas though, as a collective I'm sure we could come up with something because there is no way I can keep up with the uploads at a certain point. That's probably the biggest issue to overcome, but there are other technical issues as well, server power is one of them. Problem has been solved with game/web server backend design. Run the game in a VM, boot up a new instance from a template every time you need a video and discard it when the video is done. Problem at that point is the GPU power. Most blades don't have the space or PSU for multiple GPUs that can handle this. so you'd most likely have to hire the equivalent of a render farm.

The other way to offset some of this computing power needed would be to use AWS or Azure. Spool up a good sized VM and let the backend processing happen in the cloud. 386 Misniso Members 2,829 posts 6,653 battles Report post #25 Posted January 5, 2016 On the other end of the spectrum, you can limit the replay videos that need to be made. After all, an interesting charm of using the replays is that you get to pan the camera as you wish. If you record the videos, the camera positions are set in stone. If you want a better view, you're not getting it. Or maybe you can offer a bounty system, where uploading youtube videos of a replay gives you credits or reputation. Of course, you'll need to check the quality since someone is bound to abuse the system by linking the wrong video repeatedly and the like.
