The one with the white crosshair thingy around their red icon, that will be the one the torp indicator tries to lead. If they're out of range or just not set as the target you won't get an indicator. Or if it almost never shows up even in range and targeted... that might be a graphics issue.

It takes a bit for it to circle around sometimes.

Hit X to find which ship you wish to delete. I will add this, the guide isn't perfect and doesn't take into account anything other than constant speed of target. Play with your launches a bit, you'll be surprised at the results.

I have found that shooting both salvos... one halfway behind the guide and one on the guide...(Large spread) you can take out a turning, slowing ship, or at least have a better chance...it seems to net me a good deal more % of hits, especially on BBs... cruisers, I seem to have better luck shooting one full section behind the guide and if (torp guide) it starts to move in the opposite direction I fire two sections ahead.,.., if not then two sections behind.... Or overlap both salvos one half lead one half lag...(for BBs and Cruisers) but as TON stated, screw around with it and find what works best...
