Hello all!

I'd like to discuss a serious matter.

Obnoxious behavior from high level players. I mean, you work so hard to get there to be an [edited]to people during matches to the point that they gather against people they don't agree with.

Is this for reals?

Had a match where a player started screaming "YOU SCUMBAG! TRY AGAIN SCRUB!" I calmly replied "I am a Carrier, it is my job to try and sink you..." And there he continued to insult and went as far as to call all CV players scumbags. It was a Tier VI~VII match (Not so high, but already near that).

The other case was much serious. I happened to be dekarma'd (If there is such word) just because I friendly stated that It was a rather miss matched battle that I'd probably would take no enjoyment from. Players from the enemy team as well as my own started calling me a whiner, and all that. I mean, I would not have fun at all in a Ryujo against a bunch of Tier VIII ships. It'd be really unfair for me, specially because CVs are utterly based on stats. If they happen to be lower than the enemy's, I will obviously lose.

They also stated that the enemy team also had a tier VI and that I should shut up, because If I wasn't whining so much about it I wouldn't have died. (A Tirpitz and 2 Tier VIII cruisers found me and sunk me so fast I couldn't even run [ Yes, I was moving, I'm not that kind of CV that stands still until death]). Said player was AFK.

This situation wouldn't have bothered me at all if it was just one guy. But the grand majority of the players on that match actually called me names and stuff, mostly people on divisions. I was alone obviously.

Lost a Karma point because after having to put up with all the stuff they were saying to me, I called them [edited].

The funny part is that I was actually kidding in the beginning. Saying that I was actually wrong for complaining about the match making and wished all players luck and that they may have fun, because I probably would not. A couple of players actually took my side, but once the crapstorm began, they immediately stopped so they wouldn't be targets as well.

My question is, is this really common on high tier battles? I am not new to MMORPGs, I know this kind of thing happens a lot in competitive online games. But since we have a much maturer playerbase in this game, I expected otherwise.

If you guys tell me that this is to be expected in any tier VII+ battle. I am probably not going to stay much longer. Or I'll stop grinding once I reach tier V on all ship classes branches. I met some very fun people while playing in tier V battles. The abyss between the behavior of a Tier V player and a Tier VII+ player is too big.

It is large enough to make me create this thread so I can get some intel about the future of battles as I progress. I really don't want to quit a great game because of horrible people.

Thanks. :)

Editing to add that most nice people I saw are here at the Forums. ^^

I'm just now beginning to grasp into Tier VIII matches because of the horrendous match making.

You would have noticed if you had comprehended my text whatsoever.

It's not just high tier games in WoWS, it's the internet. You can go to a Candy Crush fanforum and there'll be flamewars there, just like in WoWS.

Welcome to the childbase that is a wargaming game. Current estimated consistency: 30% spoiled brats, 10% adults, 30% 'manchildren' and 30% trolls. Have a nice day.

To be honest, this spans across all tiers. To try to pigeon hole this into "tiers" is only trying to segregate the community into lower=innocent, mid=should know better, high=all knowing, when in fact they are the exact same players. With the exception of new players just starting out.

How many people have started a new country line, raise your hand.

/raises hand

Long and the short, it's the player, not the tier.

I agree with you and have seen this behavior in very much anywhere I have been in the internet.

My problem being we are mostly grown ups, it saddens me to come home to enjoy a good game and have to put up with this kind of behavior. It's like, let's all go back to high school....

I suppose you are right. But the great convergence of them seems to be Tier VII and above.

I taunt CV players all the time when I play the Cleveland and wipe all the planes during a massed attack.  I thought it was part of the parcel.  Especially when I've seen CV's get really arrogant when they go unchallenged...like during the 0.3.0 version era...the enemy strike Ryujo with his triple TB's and double DB's practically demanded that we stuck a fork in him.

I had a different outcome when a Cleveland offered to escort and I told him not to bother because I was going to be useless that game.  I think chat just fell quiet instead of someone poking fun.  It was a Tier 8 battle with NCs, Clevelands, Myokos...only the destroyers and the carrier were relatively harmless.  I was playing a Ryujo.  In the end, I played really conservatively until the end, where I sacrificed them all to stop the NC trying to cap.

If anything, you got "lucky" with your teammates.  But if anyone is screaming at you, give "one-word" answers.  Long elegant defenses are kind of wasted on the battlefield imo.

It feels weird that being polite is not a good thing to do. :/

I hope that's true, honestly. Those cases I described are but a fraction of what I had to put up today. And I played around 3 hours today. So.... The percentage is really high.

You are playing a CV, that's your issue.

In general, CVs are regarded as a dirty class to play as, and yeah I also hate them.

The largest issues with carriers especially in the tiers you play as is that they generally will not move to a cap circle or will hide in one corner of the map. People also don't like how their planes are capable of deleting ships by doing controlled dropping of torpedoes from less than 2Km from the ship.

Because the planes are so much more speedier and agile than the ships in the game, it does not seem hard to pull off a risk free remote killing of ships with little in the way of defenses. This happens to me a lot in my USN BBs since random battles have a somewhat noticeable lack of teamwork and if no cruisers want to escort said USN BB with a top speed of 21Kt in your tiers, the USN are only going to have themselves to rely on.

I personally see how one or two CVs would work well in a clan wars situation because it would give the battle caller a tactical advantage looking at the meta game as it plays out in battle and able to co-ordinate the ships to respond according to the battle situation, but that is never going to happen in a random battle because while some people will work as a team, my experience is the large majority of people in random battles only care for their own results. I know that I hate any match where I am doing less than 80K damage and it infuriates me that it happens so often.

Oh and in the grand scheme tiers 5-7 would arguably be mid tier. 8-10 would be high tier

That, in my humble opinion, is a point of view.

Alright, if that is the case then I take back the "high tier". Let's call it Mid-to-high-tier-battles.

Guilty.

2 days ago I free XPed Langley to Bogus with air superiority configuration for only one purpose.

Last night when I saw the IJN DD challenge, I opened up a new tree. I have the port slots to spare. I might have gone a little spend crazy after the game launched in preparation for new ships that have not arrived yet(is 15 purchased slots at once considered crazy?)

Heyya. I just wanted to say that you're going to want to move on to something else, is my guess. It's not so much that everyone who plays this game is a jerk, it's more that everyone who isn't a jerk stands up for the jerks with comments like:

Welcome to the internet, please enjoy your stay.

and:

Anyway.

They're aren't that many people who actually behave in the way you describe, but try to combat it, or even talk about it, and this thread is what you'll get every time. Not all games are like that, the internet is also used by adults. I don't want to promote other games here, but it's not hard to find an environment more welcoming, intelligent, and friendly than this one.

Good luck to you!

I my experience the higher in tiers you go the more wallet warriors there are and more players who think it is all about climbing tiers.....and they spend a lotta loot to do this and flame if "you" are messing up their win rate and costing them money.  Video game egotists. WOT is worse but I see it happening here now.  I hardy ever get bad azz crap in tiers 1-6.  Starts bout tier 7.  They get overly serious and are putting out $.  I just do not mess with high tier.  No fun IMO.

Welcome to a Wargaming product... The top tier players mostly think they're some elite bunch that are somehow superior in every way, and are almost universally horrible people.

Usually if I have the other team yelling at me, it means I'm playing good and it just makes me laugh. I usually try not to pay too much attention to the chat because it can be pretty toxic at times. I just try to focus on my gameplay and do the best I can do even if I know we are going to lose. About the community, I have seen worse, WOW and WOT comes to mind. A lot of team killing in WOT, I haven't seen much team killing on purpose in WOWS and actually seen people being very nice, I think its when you get that one person that's trying to be a troll, it stands out.

With complaining about the MM, pretty much everybody knows there are issues with it and I think a lot of people are tired of hearing people using it as an excuse for their team losing, not saying you do that but I have seen people do it before in games.

Other factor is that people are maybe not the nicest to you because you are playing CV. CVs are by far the most hated class in the game and no body likes being torped from 2km out and there is nothing they can do about it if the CV knows what they are doing. I know I get people rage at me when I nail them with torps with my DDs. I would recommend to just ignore the trash that usually is said on the chat and just play your game and don't let people affect you. At the end of the day this is just a game, which is suppose to be fun.
