Question on plane kills

So I finished the cruiser killing yesterday and now kind of have a dilemma. For the killing planes mission I could use my cruisers or BBs but I think a carrier is going to be more effective since I would be guaranteed a carrier on the other team. I can buy back the Ryujo and free xp to the AA load out or can go grind the Langley (bypassed it when I ground through previously. Is the AA load out on the Ryujo decent or a waste of time? What have people that already completed the mission used?

Had the Shokaku and Independence in my port..  went Air superiority Indy and got it done in about 10 battles.

I used the Montana and Des Moines.  Montana pulls 30 plane kill games often.  I'm not playing a CV, f that.  Zao, DM, Khab for 300 fires.

 

I have ALMOST the same train of thought.. although my best AA ships right now are the Cleveland, and my Pen and Aoba do well... I unlocked the NO after the Pen.. I hear it is really good at AA..ALSO I have the Colorado but not the AA hull yet...

As of ow those are my choices.... and I would if I could DIV up with a CV when the time comes... I have 6 cruisers and 11 DDs left if I get them...

I am not focused soley on these missions, but I love a challenge so....

 

Also I have never ever played a CV... maybe I think it would be a bit hard to do, and I struggle enough playing three different classes as it is...

lol

I used the Cleveland to double down, 150 planes, and 300 fires with one ship,  But 300 fires is still going and more than half way thru the 1 million damage for Kongo,  Go figure that one, the Infamous Flame thrower can't get 300 fires before 150 planes and 1 million damage.

dont you have to do them in order?? you cant get fire credit until after the 150 planes??

Correct, I was working on both the Myoko and Kongo at the same time,   I had finished the 30 cruisers, needed 4 more DD's, so started the 150 planes, got the 4 DD's continued on with the fires.

Langley can roll other T4-5 carriers pretty hard if you know what your doing.

 

Langley is a Tier IV ship so it won't count towards the mission.

I'll be rolling my Ryuujo with Fighter loadout for the Plane count and bomber Zuiho for the Fire thingy.

Now, how will I be able to do them 30 kills on CL/CA with my CVs will be hard to answer.

The AA loadout on the Ryujo is quite nice.  But if you're not good at Fighter air barrage, you'll need to supplement it with the Tier 4 captain skill and the Fighter upgrade modules.

 

Because you're not going to be the only one running air superiority loadout.  So any advantage / parity that you can take is important.  Fighters are your life.  If you can't gain air superiority, don't expect your strike equipment to get through.

 

That said, if you properly maintain your strike equipment until mid - late game, you'll start racking up ship kills because many of the enemy ships are weakened, many of the cruisers aren't escorting anymore, and you should have air superiority by then.  1:10 games, I top the charts because my planes can get around unchecked.

 

As a sidenote, AA Ryujo has lots of fighters.  But they can be depleted very quickly.  Sacrifice one or two, but try not to lose all 3 squadrons at once.  Over the course of a game, losing 4 squadrons is probably the limit.  Anymore than that and you'll soon find yourself unable to maintain full strength squadrons anymore.  At that time, you'll find yourself in a major pickle by late game. 

 

If you want to know how to lose squadrons quickly, initiate an aerial dogfight within 6km of a ship with AA.

Did mine on Ryujo. Perfectly adequate. Most Indies go 1/1/1, so your 3x4 fighters roll over their 1x6.

Oh yeah, I'll most likely be luring people with a squadron and barraging with the other two as they engage. That will most likely give me 6+ plane kill just from the barrage alone. Since I main IJN Carriers that is a trick I had to learn fast. I was doing barrage with my Hosho, getting called names, there were people actually saying Japanese fighters were OP. lol

I really love doing this to an opposing air superiority Ryuujou.  Send in a squadron, pray that it lives long enough with 3 fighter squadrons pounding on it, and then dash over and sweep out 2 or 3 planes of theirs per squadron.  I'm just worried that my next opponent will have an appropriate response and that I'll need a better strategy to counter their counter.

Ive been rocking the Clevelands epic AA capabilities. The only problem is that i t seems the carriers are getting scarse in matches. went 6 matche sin a row without a carrier and took a break. Probly but hurt carriers players  XD

I played the Zuiho effectively vs bogues so I know about using friendly cruisers, but that was before the changed fighter ability. I just wanted to know if the Ryujo was worth buying back for the fighter kills. I will probably be running with a platoon mate in his cleveland as well.

If you want virtually guaranteed plane kills, a FT BOGUE or INDY is sufficient, and guarantees enemy planes. My only game so far with no plane kills was when the enemy carrier didn't connect.

I bought a Bogue and equipped her with the 2-fighter, 1 dive bomber loadout.  I barely used my dive bombers and instead concentrated on just killing any planes I found.  This is what happened:

*shudder*  God, I hate playing CVs.  At least it's reciprocated.

 

It took seven games to collect my 150 kills.  The "easiest" tactic I found was to bait the enemy fighters with my dive bombers / one squadron of fighters and then use the ALT fighter command to straffe them with a single fighter group before moving the second in to engage normally.  This often broke the back of enemy fighter groups, cutting their numbers in half and made for an easy win.  Also, make sure you buy captain skills / modules that increase the AA of your carrier.  That's easily an extra 3 to 5 kills, usually towards the end of a losing game.

Yeah, you won't be carrying any games with FTR, but you will be killing a metric ton of aircraft.

Update:Well I bough the Ryujo and this was the first step toward my aircraft kills.
