Fighter plane hack?

So in a game this AM, had the following happen.

Had a Zuiho and other player had a Bouge.

Other team had same ships.

Had my fighters up, escorting 2 TBs and a Bomber Squad.

1, JUST ONE, enemy fighter squad came in and wiped all 4 of my squads literally within 3 seconds.

Then after getting all new squads up, sent them out again, watched as again, 1 enemy fighter squad killed my fighters, the other Bouge fighters and then my other 3 squads, again, each squad killed in less then a second each...

Any thoughts on this?

He used the strafe ability, use the manual (alt button) attack on fighters to do this.

It's legit. To counter, spread your planes apart, and watch the enemy aircraft path. If you see them firing in a straight line you need to get out of the path immediately. Fighters can do a turn to punish a missed barrage at the end.

Replays, without replays, it is just chatter

Not everyone is a liar, but I guess when someone asks for a replay it just chatter.

I did the same thing to a Houshou using a single Langley fighter group. Strafing is brutal when the enemy CV player isn't expecting it.

Yes, it is a hack.  Everyone knows hacks are widespread in WoWS.  Everything from Fire-and-Forget HE and AP rounds with the zero dispersion auto aim mod to the Auto Citadel Penetration mod.  All these mods are widely available in the internet and WG can do nothing about it since they are cloaked in stealth code.

Ha, I had the same thing going while I was grinding up to the Bogue. I had one game where the enemy had an equally upgraded Langley and didn't know about strafing. First time I used it he immediately began calling me a filthy hacker(with a few more expletives thrown in). I explained to him twice during the game what I was doing and how, but he just didn't want to believe me.

Really makes me wish more than 1% of game populations read the forums(or whatever the number is).

Well, American fighters always win over Japanese fighters.  Just be thankful he isn't AA because screw AA carriers.

Alt -fighters is the stupidest thing WG added to this game. I don't even like using it.

I agree and said so when the patch notes were released lol

this is sadly very true. In the same match I strafed the Houshou, he nabbed me with a strafe run of his own. Where he lost 3 squadrons, I lost 3 planes. It reminded me of how rough my Zuihou grind was. IJN fighters just can't compete with the USN one, at least in low tiers.  Considering how bad my Zuihou grind was, I'm hesitant to buy Ryuujou even though she is already researched.

Saw a CV player on our team yesterday asking the enemy CV how he took out 2 fighter squads in 3 seconds with 1 fighter squad. Now I know the answer...

Which is why you don't try and head-to-head a US fighter squadron with Zuihou, He can only be one place at a time unless he went full fighter loadout, so you just chase his bombers with your fighter and he either loses them or leaves your bombers unmolested.

Do you know of a video tutorial on how to make strafe work?  I've come up against a few players that seem to have it down and just decimated my planes but I can't for the life of me get the timing and setup down to make it work.  I know the keys to use...just can't seem to make it work.

Squad on squad yes...but often times the IJN has 2 squads on 1 USN squad and IJN typically wins that battle.

USN at low-mid tiers should never be directly engaging fighters head on when at a numerical disadvantage. They should be baiting into an advantage. In 2 squads vs 1 squad, you're basically guaranteed to lose your squad if you enter a dogfight since it's pinned for a strafe, and trading 4 for 6 is a no brainer. You should bait one of the squadrons, barrage it, and try to come around and either engage or barrage the other squad. When you have another carrier with you, and his fighters get caught, it's even more of a no-brainer to barrage that, since their squadron is dead either way.
