My god. I've been playing in quite a few boats, Cruisers mostly, and this thing is a complete and utter joke compared to the other boats in this group. I've had plenty of success until I got into this bathtub with a potato launcher as the main gun. Can't wait for this one to be over.

Oh lord if you're complaining already about Tier 2's this is going to get interesting when you branch out into the rest of a tech tree.

YOU ROW BOATS, these are SHIPS.... and if you are not happy with tier 2s, then you should just free XP to tier ten NOW so you can harp about how bad they are to play as well....:fishpalm:

This is going to be fun to watch and see where it goes...

thing is a complete and utter joke

I disagree with your assessment. I remember Chikuma and Chester as being a challenge especially when engaging a St. Louis, Dresden, or Kolberg.

If you get the hang of these ships and learn that you must pick and chose your battles and hang in close with team mates, I think you may find them easier to play and you will get more out of the game.

If you are constantly doing your own thing regardless of what your team is doing, then you are going to have a bad day. These ships, and others at higher tiers, cannot hold their own against most opponents owing to their very limited number of guns. I don't remember them as having weak guns, IIRC, only too few of them.

Hmmm.  When I was in the Navy, we called them boats, too.

If it is any consolation none of the T2 ships really shine.  As a plus both the T3 Tenryu for the IJN and the  T3 St Louis for USN cuiser lines are huge improvements over their T2 counterparts.

I've been getting along fine, just think the thing stinks, or am I not allowed to have an opinion around these parts? I find it funny you are judging my abilities based of my disdain for a single ship. Way to go, point still stands, the boat sucks.

Good god not another one of those 'omg someone disagreed with me, they must be attacking my 1st amendment rights' people. That makes two of you this morning alone. Geeeeeeeeeeeeez.

Some of us were just forecasting some more issues you were going to have in the weeks/months to follow.

You are allowed to have an opinion, ofcourse you are. But when you come to the forum, write a whine thread exclaiming how a ship sucks as if it's fact, with your less than 70 battles played total, expect some ridiculing.

Tens of thousands of people have played hundreds of thousands of matches in that ship before you even installed the game. Instead of being so absolutely certain that it's 100% the ship that's at fault (because ofcourse you play it perfectly) ask yourself what YOU can do better in it. I mean, have you mastered things like angling, ammo selection vs different targets at different ranges, aiming for best effect etc or are you still at the "wheeeee, floatie boats! Boom boom boom!" stage?

Let me put it this way, if you were to go up against someone vastly more experienced than you in a chikuma and he'd consistently wreck you in it, would you still blame the ship for being terrible? Or would you start to realize that maybe - just maybe - the person driving it also has a measure of influence.

It's tier 2, you won't be in it very long. Grind it out, sell it and move on.

Actually the Chikuma has a 50% win rate for over 800,000 thousand games played according to Warships data site. The other site (forget it's name) has it at 52%.  That is a heck of a lot better than a hell of a lot of other ships.

Like it is said above, it is not a bad ship for the tier. All Tier 2 cruisers have puny guns and don't do much damage (excepting the premium Albany which has good guns but suffers from short range and should not be played without an AFT-trained captain). DDs are not bad at T2, especially Umikaze.

The beauty of Tier 2, besides that it starts to teach you the mechanics, is that is is thankfully short as it only takes a few battles to grind out.

As for the "not fun" post. Wrong. All tiers are fun. Tier 2 has fun pew-pews like Dresden and Emden. Not much damage but insane RoF. That is fun.

As said, Umikaze has wonderful little torpedoes for the tier. Derzki is a YOLO boat and if you are crazy enough, you can do suicide missions and once in a while do very well, and certainly always fun.

Totally agree.  Like action and lots of it?  Play tier 2-5.  Different strokes for different folks! Heck I have a hoot playing Orlan in tier 1.

You mention Dresden.  It has a very high win rate.  Well over 50%.  It just takes time to kill a ship.  I use it to run around doing as much damage as I can and not necessarily just trying to kill a ship.  It's great for setting up ships for others to kill. Taking down the health of ships wins game.

I'm upvoting this simply because I laughed so [edited]hard at this guys choice of comparisons whilst expressing his frustration. I like your creativity.

Working on the Umikaze at the moment, great fun little boat, doing well with the torps and DD playstyle thus far. People hit the "OMG [edited]" button a little too early frankly, that's where my issue is. I used other entry level boats and the Chikuma was the one that was the worst I've experienced thus far. Dresden was fun, lots of small guns but smaller damage hits and didn't feel like a grind at all, the Chikuma didn't have the same vibe is all, felt like I was always waiting on a reload. Once the mods happened it wasn't as poor a ship, but still my least favourite to date.

As soon as people start the "you're been here for 4 days, you know nothing Jon Snow" shenanigans I laugh and move on, just like you should if you don't like what I've said. I have enjoyed the Karlsruhe to a greater extent than the Chikuma, a ship that I know has plenty of detractors as "worst in game bruh!". Did someone's grandpa design the Chikuma and get a little upset a complete nub didn't like it?  Again, if I'm as insignificant as you say I am why even bother posting inferring that I'm an idiot? Bizarre that you are trolling for posts in the Newcomer forum admonishing people for being inexperienced in the game.

Assuming you posted that in direct reply to what I said, since I was the only one that mentioned your lack of experience:

1) Please point out where I claimed you're an idiot. I never did. Stop putting words in my mouth.

2) Please point out where I claimed you are insignificant. I never did. Stop putting words in my mouth.

It's your attitude that's a problem. Not your lack of experience nor your opinion. It would've been so much different if you'd come on and posted a thread that went "Can someone help me how to do well in Chikuma? I do terrible in it and don't like it, despite liking Karlsruhe". See the difference? Instead you started with whining. You started with "Waaah waah this ship is teh suck and it is terrible and that's a fact waaah waaah". Your attitude after people point this out to you is also - .. less than stellar. Putting words in people's mouths, claiming they said things they clearly didn't.

"Chikuma sucks" is an opinion. You get upset with people pointing out the fact that it is just that, an opinion (as opposed to actual fact) and explaining they have different opinions, based on vastly more experience.

"You're inexperienced" is a quantifiable, provable fact. You get upset with people pointing out this fact. Your inexperience doesn't make you insignificant, all it does is make your opinion on game balance a bit - ... uneducated. The fact that the vast majority of people with vastly more experience than you disagree with your opinion should say enough.

You post this thread apparently because we think we should care about your opinion. Then don't get upset when we post ours, based in actual fact, and vastly more experience. What, we should all just instead sit and shut up and agree with everything you say? It seems to me that that is the only thing we can do to make you not upset.

Well, I've never cared about who gets upset about what I type, and I don't intend to start now.

This is the last I'm going to post in this thread. It's painfully obvious that you don't want any help whatsoever and just want to whine, and blame a ship for your inability to - ... What, make it work? You're at 100% co-op victories in your Chikuma, you're making it work just fine.

Chikuma is a pretty good little Tier II ship.     I havnt played many battles in it because well I almost feel guilty at Tier II getting 50k damage in a ship.

You have to learn to pay attention to your surroundings and try not to get into trouble like I almost did in this video.   Even still I pulled out 3 kills and between main artillery and fire managed 50k damage.

Many ships, even within the same class, require a change in mindset.  If you are used to playing T1 CAs a certain way and bring that play style to T2, then the T2 ships (or some of them) won't play as well.  Some of that might be difference in the ship's capabilities, but some (arguably most) of the difference isn't the ship per se, but the style of play in that ship.  From a user's perspective, style vs ship is transparent when determining the suck factor. A ship can be superior in general (I'm not saying this is necessarily true in this case), but if it doesn't fit a player's style (a personal choice), then it will suck for that player.

Strategically, it's not a bad idea to play all classes...and at least get some experience in most of the ships.  The best way to counter a ship is to know its strengths and weaknesses. And the best way to figure that out is to drive it yourself.

The best way I can describe the Chikuma is to say it's forgettable. I can't remember playing the ship or if I liked it. I will say I like the tier III Tenyru enough to have kept it. Also, the tier IV Kuma is a ship I see others rave about. So, while you will find ships you don't like as you play this game, you don't have to play Chikuma for very long before leaving it behind forever.

Some ships I initially disliked (Kawachi and Myogi come to mind) I got to tolerate or even like the more I played them.

Admittedly, there is at least one ship I liked even less the more I played it. (Can you say "Karlsruhle"?)

oh look, a Chikuma, load up the AP! - (any smart Erie player.)

Chikuma is the second worst ship in the game, after the Albany.
