HE saturation on DDs, seriously why?

Now, I can perfectly understand HE saturation on larger ships.  There comes a point on even a cruiser where HE isn't going do anything to the heavy structural sections that are left, but a destroyer doesn't really have anything heavy enough to do that.  What sense does it make for a DD to take a whopping 905 damage from 4 8" HE rounds landing square into the middle of the ship, a salvo that would usually do 2.5-3k damage with ease?  Now, I do enjoy playing DDs so I'm not out to try and cripple a line (What sense would it make?  I like them.), but seriously there's no reason for anything other than the bridge of a DD to reach a saturation point.

It doesn't. That's a limitation caused by the simplified game model. Just accept that for the time being. Maybe they'll add more subsections in the future (and maybe not).

Torpedo damage saturation is also pretty dumb on DDs, it shouldn't be possible for a DD to tank multiple torpedoes because its bow has reached it's damage limit.

DDs get damage saturation? O_o

Always seems like any hit does damage to me....

 

Just discovered it the hard way while trying to kill one.

I wouldn't've thought a DD has enough health for that... Not even the Khab-whatever.

Don't have any personal replays showing it but here's a youtube clip. Notice the second torpedo kills via flooding and not direct damage.

Damage saturation isn't limited to any type of weapon. All ships have damage thresholds in every section, +1 more threshold that is the whole ship.

 

It should be noted however, due to DDs having no citadels its midsection threshold is actually the ship's full HP. So you can't fully saturate the midsection of a DD.

 

For ships that have them, citadels have as much HP as the ship so it too would never get saturated.

 

Additionally, overpens, fire, flooding and ramming will always deal damage regardless of whether or not the section has any HP left.

Its always fun when that DD rushing you starts to only take 120 damage from five 6" HE shells hitting its bow.

I don't think DDs have enough health for that to even matter. The chances of a DD living long enough to see that saturation are not in the DDs favor.

Yep, it's a very rare occurence. As long as you're not hitting them in only one section you'll hardly ever see it.
