on those that paid for it and Yubari.  Its guns and torpedoes are both jokes. It's torpedoes should be normalised to Mahan standard (choice of either). This was a premium ship bought in faith from WG and it (and Yubari ) is just a mockery to play. Average damage about 17900 and by the grace of RNG I manage 29K, BAD BAD ship.  Rant over

Oh I assure you the sims is bad, especially with that new Polish tier 7 in comparison, but she is no joke.

I would like to know PGM how you deal with her long enough to get battles like that. Last SIMS adventure that I took her on, I had my engine knocked out all 4 times of the 5 or so volleys that ended up hitting me over a span of 12 minutes.

I don't think the Yubari is bad. The lack of carriers makes it that her good AA is meaningless for most battles, but she's otherwise average; nothing bad about her.

 

As for the Sims, I'm mostly inclined to agree due to her torpedoes. I still do alright with her, but she could certainly get a buff.

The Sims looked better when it didn't have to compete with the Polish monster.

 

It's still not a Tier 7 ship. It needs to be Tier 6, and you have to go all the way to Tier 4 to find DDs that are averaging similar damage.

The Sims was great in closed beta, when you could use smoke to help close the extra few kilometers needed to torp someone without dying, and still have smoke left to make your escape.

 

I like the Idea of giving it the Mahan torps.  I might actually use the thing if they did that.

Sims was really fun in CBT. Now though, it has no weapons. It has torps that do bad damage at no range, or torps that do no damage at meh range. It has guns that spin like a top, shoot into space, and don't do anything when you manage the odd hit or two.

Sims...very fast scout.  I manage to die every time I spot 2 ships.

 

Yubari is very tough to play....and struggles to reach mediocre status.

5.5km torpedoes with 11k damage going at 55 knots.

9.2km torpedoes with 8k damage going at 49 knots.

 

IIRC. I don't have the game open right now.

Torp speed of sims is 65 Knots

Default surface detectability of sims is 7.3Km

Default air detectability of sims is 3.7Km

 

Torp range of Blyskawica is 8Km

however where I feel the Blyskawica really shines is the guns. the torps are nice but I still really only use them in emergencies. I just find it is too obvious that I am aiming torps if I stop shooting for 4-5 seconds

Guns are actually not bad. With that fire rate, you can be terror while shooting out of smoke, over islands, or (with AFT) out of invis. Gun arc is crappy, but workable. Torps are meh, but workable.

 

Not a great ship overall (esp considering how easily these turrets break), but certainly not a joke. I'd welcome a buff, but if I didn't happen I'd still be okay with it.

It's hard to find a US ship in the game that isn't a joke.  One would think from this game that the USN was historically third rate and much lagging behind the Poles and Italians.

 

My guess is what we are seeing is that the Russian bias that American hardware is crap, it's just turned out in large numbers.  The US didn't have superior weapons, it just had more of them sort of thing.

I'm sorry, but how exactly would you know that? Looking at the ships you play -- you almost exclusively play USN BBs (can't compare to IJN BBs); almost exclusivly play IJN DDs (can't compare to USN DDs), and as for cruisers in your highest comparable ship pair -- Pheonix/Kuma -- the American ship has higher average damage.

This proves literally nothing. Just because you had a good game in a ship means NOTHING. The stats on the ship and its average performance trump screenshot of one good game you had in it. I'm sure people would find a way to have a good game in the Kongo if magically became a tier X. Does that mean it's a good tier X? Hell no.

Getting last stand when you don't have the appropriately levelled captain is kind of hard- especially when I bought the sims with the intent on training a good DD captain for the non premiums. It was good in beta but now she just does not feel like she used to. And on top of that she is outclassed in almost every manner by the new Polish destroyer

The stats on the ship and its average performance

 

Now, we must remember that the Sims player base is different from a typical tier VII non-prem DD player base. I bet a lot of people that have a Sims don't play DDs all that often, and only grind the Sims when they need to re-train a captain. That would drive the averages for the ship down, since high-tier DD play has a fairly high skill cap: there are less potatoes that drive in a straight line and go around corners willy-nilly on the enemy team, capital ships have a higher relative effectiveness, and there is generally more vision on the map.

 

On average, I tend to do slightly worse in Sims than in Mahan (30.1k in 20 games vs 32.5k in 39 games) -- but the difference isn't huge.

If you play the USN DD line, by ~T6/T7 you should have enough XP for last stand, assuming you kept the same captain.

 

And as I said, it's not that necessary. You have your repair, you have your smoke. If they're both on CD -- well, better not put yourself in a situation where you might get your engine knocked out ;)
