Greetings all,

So i realized today that it has been forever since ive done a German ship, so today your getting a German ship. We'll be taking a look at the Bremen class light cruisers of 1904. The 1898 Naval law permitted Germany a fleet of 30 light cruisers, the Gazelle class took up 10 of these spots. The Bremen class design looked to offer greater size and speed over the Gazelle as well as having substantially thicker armor, 7 of these ships were ordered and built. Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin, Lubeck, Munchen, Leipzig and Danzig. All ships had extensive service careers during WWI. Only Bremen and Leipzig were lost, Bremen to mines and Leipzig to the HMS Glasgow and HMS Cornwall. Bremen was also lost to British bombers while "serving" as a barracks ship in 1944. Lets take a look at Lubeck, the most advanced of the class!

WEIGHT - 3,797t

She is the lightest amongst tier 2 ships which all weigh at least 4,000t, but the tons lighter she is can be measured in hundreds, not thousands, so shell do alright.

ARMOR

Turtleback: 50mm

Deck: 80mm

Armored Bridge: 100mm

Turret Sheilds: 50mm

like Dresdnen she has no belt, just coalbunkers and a thick turtleback. Her armor is very similar to the dresden's with the only differences being that Dresden's turtleback is 30mm thicker, and Bremen's deck is 30mm thicker. She is one of the best armored cruisers at tier 2.

MAIN BATTERY - 10x 105mm (4")

These are the same guns that Dresden has, 5 can be fired to a broadside. She has 2 less guns than the fully upgraded Dresden but should still be a floating machine guns with wicked fast reload times like Dresden and Kolberg.

SECONDARY BATTERY - 10x1 37mm

It is unlikely that these would act as secondary guns in game but in real life they were intended for use against torpedo boats and destroyers.

AA BATTERY - perhaps the non hull-mounted 37's???

TORPEDO BATTERY - 2x1 500mm

Lubeck had 2 single deck mounted torpedo tube launchers added in 1908 to complement her 2 underwater tubes (which do not fire in game) These will make up for her 2 lost 105's when compared to Dresden. One torpedo to a broadside is nothing to bow down and worship to... but it may come in handy.

SPEED - 22.5kn

Lubeck was mounted with experimental high powered steam turbines which allowed her to go a half knot faster than her sisters, but she sacrificed 910km of range for that extra speed (Dont worry, range doesnt matter in game) Only albany is slower at tier 2.

CONCLUSION - I could see Bremen in game as a tier 2 cruiser with a hull upgrade making her like the Lubeck with torpedoes and more speed. Shes not fast by any means, but she'll outpace an Albany... or any tier 3 battleship. She is well protected, but has the lowest hitpoints of her tier. I love the 105's on the dresden and i would love them on the Bremen, you have 2 less guns (1 less per broadside) but you have a single torpedo launcher on either broadside to make up for it (although personally i would rather have the gun, but ive learned never to complain about torpedo's... it selfish and rude to the cruisers who arent fortunate enough to have them... you know.. the whole "kids starving in Africa" concept) Shes just kinda in the middle of all the other tier 2 cruisers, whih is good for balance, but she really doesnt have anything that would make me want to keep her, nothing SHAZAAAM about her, shes just... average.. well besides her drop dead gorgeous looks... but thats all German ships ;).

PROS

Good armor

rapid fire guns

has torpedos

CONS

sluggish

lowest tier 2 cruiser hitpoints

Let me know what you guys think! And as always, have a good day! :)

Can you do more minor nations stuff?  Especially late war ships?

minor nation ships? ive done the Espana, the Ning Hao, and the De Ruyter and Gryf amongst others... minor nation ships are less likely to make it in game and frankly people dont care about em, because they dont know them. And late war ships? Ive done alaska... thats about as late as they get. lol. what ships did you have in mind mate?

Minor Nation ships are likely to make it in this game if they fit into the era, just after all current trees+Britain and France have been released.

I was thinking of the Swedish and Dutch AA cruisers, as well as Spanish/South American unique destroyer designs.

Italy will most likely come before France, France has too many balance issues

I thought WG said they hadn't decided yet, and Ning Hai premium would follow.
