Why do people Bot in this game

So, I recently got back into this game after a few months of hiatus for college and what not, and noticed that while playing my tier 8 North Carolina, there tends to be a bot once in every twenty or so matches. My question is as follows, why do people bot in this game, especially at high tiers as it doesn't look like it would be profitable.

Thank you.

*Please do not that I am angry that I got ganged up on by a Tirpitz and a few cruisers because of a bot on my team. Oddly enough, ended up chasing the cruisers off when I completely missed the one I was aiming for and ironically enough, one of my shells ended up cit'ing a cruiser behind him ,lol.

Okay would you rather.......

Grind a ship and have some occasional epic or derp moments on a ship that's in the way of the ship you want (e.g. Iowa, Yamato, Fletcher, etc.)

OR

Have a software that allows you to go into matches without doing anything in the match, but still getting a bare reward, and the player not doing anything or lifting a finger to play the grind himself.

Bots choose 2 because they don't actually want to do the grind, and just want exp and credits from doing nothing to get the next ship.

Never underestimate the persistence and dedication of a troll. This is the internet. Whatever can happen, will happen.

It's more likely people who failed to load or had their game crash. Bots aren't as prevalent as people want to believe and as you pointed out, aren't profitable anyways.

I bet the 90% of the ships you think are bots are just people who are afk or failed to load in.  And they get nothing.  0 XP if they don't move or fire.

I've only seen one ship in all the time i have been playing that i would describe as a true bot and that one was just randomly sailing around and seemed to be aiming at whatever the closest ship was, whether friend or foe.

I'm not saying some people don't bot, but honestly, to advance at all in this game would take some sophisticated botting code as you don't get rewarded for all the same stuff as they do in WoT, for example.  Over there, you can get XP from just spotting enemies, taking damage, moving, etc.  Here, it's mostly damage and capping. Anyone who could afford to pay the money to buy gold and credits to finance botting above tier V could just go pay someone to power level their ships for them instead.  Or buy an account already leveled.   Much easier to do.

Here is my question, if someone fails to load in for whatever reason, like their power going off for example, won't their ships main battery remain in the facing forward/aft instead of moving? The battle that I am talking about specifically, I watched the ship and saw its main batteries following enemy ships but never fired a shot; however, that isn't saying that the secondaries didn't get in on the action as they tore a New Orleans and a Pensacola a new one before the ship in question was sunk by a torp run from a Tirpitz.

On another note, I will never accuse someone of botting unless I have hard evidence, and when I was witnessing this battle, I believe the ship in question was indeed botting. Personally, I try to give people the benefit of the doubt when it comes to disconnected and other things.

Agreed, though when you do get them it is very irritating as that botting ship had it had a player actually playing would definitively be helpful when needed.

Not really, I've loaded in stupidly late before, it seems after the 5 minute mark the game just roates the batteries as normal.

That's odd, I always thought that disconnected players always had their main battery never move; thanks for letting me know this.

I often have the game crash and it might take 3 or so minutes before I get back in. My ship is never right where I left it, It tends to cruise on a bit or continue a turn. That's assuming it's still alive. Often it's not.

I've seen some peculiar activity at various times.   One time it looked like a DD was sailing around near the spawn providing AA cover for a CV, but then it never reacted to the enemy ships that sailed around and killed it and the CV.  Another time a cruiser appeared to be sailing randomly back near the spawn and was just shooting erratically into the air...though when enemy forces made their way back to our spawn, this cruiser did manage to land some shots on the enemy.  Don't know if these were bots or truly horrible/distracted/drunk/high players.

I have unfortunately non-rare occasions where i just don't load into battle.  it doesn't happen often, but it's a lot less rare than i'd like it to be.  I have to kill the WOWS process to and restart it to get back into battle.  I'm often dead by that time, since i have to load in even after the client restarts.

I don't know about bots, but i do know that even with the extended start timer, you can still see that several people haven't loaded in by the time the game starts... or you can't because you're already in game and the loading screen is gone.

Aside:  WG put in a loaded into battle indicator so you know who's afk and who's dealing with cruddy internets, computers, or failing clients.  Team visible only is fine.

People like afk ships on the enemy team for easy kills. Or in the case of IJN cruisers and all DDs, easy torp target.

According to a recent Supreme Court ruling, BOTS United vs WG, BOTS have the right to participate in as many battles as they want.

these are trying times.

THE BOTS MUST BE SEGREGATED TO PVE ONLY!

And under the employ and supervision of WG, no rogue rebellious bots will be tolerated.

Let the purge begin.

Interestingly enough one of the Iowa bots has a 49% win rate. So much for skill and teamwork being a factor. Im interested to know what the "only you control your win rate" crowd has to say about that.

That there are a bunch of good players in the higher tiers carrying the bots in game after game? Obviously.

I think because some days I kicked off for three minutes at a time I am a bot.  I don't really see the need for better ships that would cause me to bot, I have enough trouble playing T7 after 2500 games.

actually you're right there, disconnected players have their turret facing front and back and won't move, the guy above obviously has no idea what he's talking about
