Does anyone know what the format is?

Is anyone using a digital home theater to play and if so, is it in Dolby, pcm or dts or something else?

I am using a Yamaha RX-V663 & the audio is coming out in 4 speakers and not surround.

Trying to get the most out of the audio.

I thought the receiver would encode or decode, whichever it would be, the audio into digital.

Well from my time playing around with the audio files it uses .wwise banks & probably files in .mp3, ogg, or wav formats. From my time messing around in WoT, the game utilized the FMOD system which plays back sound files based distance & location of objects & then pans the volume accordingly along the stereo field. Also the music is not dynamic & most likely in a mp3, ogg format with certain tracks heavily side panned (I've extracted the music into mp3 files).

Don't know if this answers your question or not since I don't work with surround.

Never tried connecting a PC to a home theater setup before but I have with all of my consoles.  Used to own a Yamaha receiver as well (RX-V373, much lower-end than yours) before upgrading to my current one (Onkyo TX-NR737), so I might be of help.

If you are connected via optical or HDMI you should be able to determine the audio format by going into your receiver's GUI and searching for something along the lines of "incoming signal" or "input details".  Should display the format, bit rate, number of channels, etc.  I always check this to ensure the audio output settings on the source device are configured properly.

Do you still get sound out of 4 speakers when you use your receiver's unprocessed "direct" mode as opposed to one of the DSP settings? This may also be affected by the audio output settings on your PC, but I sadly have no experience in that area as I only use 2.1 computer speakers or a gaming headset on mine.

Connected via HDMI. Signal details are PCM with channels as 3/2/0.1.

I was messing around in that menu last night & now the sound seems worse.

Pretty sure that's the same signal I get when connected to a console with my 5.1 setup.  Have you played 5.1 content from your PC with that receiver before without issue and are only having trouble with this game, or is this the first time you've tried connecting them?
