Torps from off map

Is this a bug or permissible game play to launch and arm torps from a CV off the map?

I am pleased to announce that TB can swoop down cliffs along islands you are sailing right next to. Evasive maneuvering is the best course of action.

It can be done, but is only ever done when the target is border-scumming in a way that makes hitting with regular torpedoes hard (like in your picture).

Not sure of WG's stance on whether or not this is 'working as intended'^TM but I've seen iChase do this a number of times during Twitch streams.  He might have a YouTube video on how to do it as well.  There's a trick involving grouping up your planes a certain way so that they'll fly just outside of the map border and can't be noticed until it's too late.

Personally not impressed with certain streamers playing CV's mainly. Seems to use every exploit and cheat and bug and unintended game mechanic he can find to maintain unfair advantages over opponents. They may or may not be a good player in reality, too busy exploiting to ascertain if they have skill outside of finding exploits. Oh well, WG getting too many benefits from viewers to realize their support of a popular cheater encourages and elevates poor gamesmanship for the population overall. Kinda like this whole discussion here revolving around an exploiter of borders complaining of exploiter of aircraft mechanics. Pot meet kettle.

Way I see this is it can sometimes be a good thing when a well known streamer calls attention to an exploit.  The more people know about an exploit and the more it gets abused and complained about should serve to better light a fire under WG to get it fixed.

 

To be fair to Chase, the last time I saw him do this was against an enemy CV who had supposedly pissed him off by edge-riding in a number of previous matches. (this was before the current speed reducing border mechanics) He said something along the lines of "I know this is a dirty exploit that needs to be fixed, but I'd like to call attention to it while giving this guy what he deserves."

 

Haven't watched any CV streams in a while though, so I'm not sure how common this still is.

the ability drop from outside the map should stay it shouldnt be fixed at all, with the border the way it is any kind of drop the makes becomes enormously tricky even with the speed decrease. Being able to turn on a dim can be very useful in dodging torps.

Basically it only affects border scummers, something many people have no sympathy for. Keep it, if it means punishing more of those players.
