Wargaming.net "most profitable gaming company of all time" isn't Russian

Wargaming.net is not a Russian company. It is not based in Russia, it is not owned by Russians, and it does not have Russian management.

Wargaming.net is based in Minsk, Belarus. Russia and Belarus are two separate, sovereign, independent countries. They are just as separate as the United States and Canada (or even more so, since they speak different languages). Andrew Yarantsev is the top manager at the company. He is also a native and a citizen of Belarus. When he talks about Russia, it's clear that he's talking about a foreign country.

In an interview with Business Insider, the head of Facebook Europe, Julien Cordorniou, described Wargaming.net as "the most profitable gaming company of all time."

Every time an American calls Wargaming.net "Russian" there are a bunch of guys in Minsk who laugh at our stupidity.

I'm ashamed for being so gullible, to have subscribed to the culture of ignorance which we foster here, that has led us all to believe in, and propagate, the falsehood that Wargaming.net is Russian.

Most Belorussians speak Russian, and the ones I've met largely identify as Russian. But yes, they're not Russian.

Since I already said "culture of ignorance" once, I won't say it again.

I believe this is common knowledge to most of us Wargaming veterans; the veterans that have been around since beta phase of WoT.

However, we have also known Wargaming long enough to not care. :sceptic:

HQ is at Cyprus lol.

Just because of WoT, people tend to pick "Russians" as scapegoat in WoWs too. Because "Russian bias" is STRONK!1!!1

Oh, tell this to Gaijin too.

Surprised CCP didn't take this title... Have lost interest in EVE though

It's all those false articles stating stuff like "11 thousand dollars lost in a tin can in a virtual space game called EVE"

Only the last few actually carried 27 PLEX, the rest just had 1 trillion ISK worth of cargo which isn't a 1:1 ratio exactly.

You realize that all Belorussians speak Russian as native language and a large number identify themselves as Russian.

No it was the change to super capital travel that broke it for me.

Surprisingly, most of the Russian ships in the game dont get as much protection of the 'STRONK  Russian Bias ' mantra unlike the Soviet tanks in WoT  .The RU DD  have their invisible fire nerf before they were even released officially and in patch 5.2 ,Kiev HP has been SIGNIFICANTLY  reduced along with some other RU DD's  alpha damage which tooks less than a year to be nerfed !  unlike in WoT (ex;KV-1s which took ages to be nerfed).

Yeah giving the Murmansk a range advantage over the same Omaha class ship wasn't because it was a Russian ship what so ever.

The Omaha later gets a hull upgrade which can increase its range to the Murmansk level and gets the 8km torp upgrade too!Which still  tooks in less than  a year to accomplished it.

Something funny about 'bias' in War Thunder:  A couple years ago, statistics were leaked that showed that Gaijin's American players spent far more on average than its Russian ones.  As a result, the Russian community exploded with 'American Bias' claims, as "Gaijin doesn't care about its Russian fanbase and just wants to keep the rich Americans happy".  And at the same time, silly Americans and Europeans were still complaining about 'Russian Bias' (and still do).

"most profitable" is such a vague term.  Per user? Gross? Net Income? Operating Income? Margin percentage? Equity?

WG is still far under 1 billion revenue, still a small company compared to the giants.

Not knowing every fact about a company does not equal a "culture of ignorance". Furthermore, I've heard multiple people (from twitch, youtube, and I think even a few dev posts on here) mention that St. Petersburg is where the main development takes place. Sooo...

Yeah. I really don't give a [edited].

The problem is Belarus is basically Russia light. They were apart of the Russian Empire for a LONG time. Most people there speak Russian. They were a part of the USSR. Indeed, Belarus was one of the few countries who almost STAYED with Russia and many wish they had. They have their own dictator though, and as long as he is in power they will stay independent as he wants to STAY in power. He is grooming his son to become the next dictator. No joke- his son is in his tweens at the oldest and he got him a gold plated pistol for his birthday.

Don't get me wrong, they ARE different. If I pay WG it goes to Cyprus even (though that is basically a bank island these days), but they aren't that seperate either, with some Belarusians even arguing there isn't such a thing as Belarusians- just western Russians.

That all comes down to the hysterical overexaggeration of "Russian bias" in here stirred up for years. Still, I'm not surprised that their ships' weaknesses are compromised. And I'm not surprised that WG devs are actually proving them wrong as well.

@Choukai

Belarus means "White Russia", by the way.
