Is there a penalty for dying or a bonus for surviving?

 

That is, all else being equal, do we suffer for 'going out in a blaze of glory' as opposed to scampering away to survive and let things take their course?

In credits, theoretically "Yes" because you make less money due to repair costs.

In experience, likely not (or extremely small). I've seen a lot of battles where the person who died carrying the team through most of the match ranked way higher than the lemmings who survived doing nothing. This occurs more often on the losing teams, but I have seen it happen on the winning team on rarer occasions.

At tiers IX and X, most definitely yes. The penalty for dying is lots and lots of silver.

True, but the lemming is paying for it with XP. You can still get a solid 1-2k base xp on a loss if you carry the team hard enough, and in the event that your team does win, you'll pull off a nice bonus, especially with the x3's right now.
