Mikasa dispersion. Why do people think its bad?

Honest question really. I mean, I can somewhat understand that only having 2 guns per turret, and there by firing one turret can lead to some pretty heavily influenced RNG shots (I once straddled a St Louis at 4km...one shot either side of him...)

But, is her dispersion truly bad? Or are people simply playing her in-correctly?

I remember, back when she was first released on the EU shop, the people who bought her started lighting up the forums over there, claiming she was the worst ship they had ever sailed, ect ect ect. But at the same time....were these same people using her as they would the New Mexico? Or Kongo? Or even the Iowa? Its possible....

But there is something I want to point out....something I have noticed, in the short amount of time and limited battles I've had so far to sail her out into battle....

She actually isn't really that bad. What I've found so far, and its going to need some more battles to fully confirm, but her dispersion....is pretty close, or even better to some same tier or sightly higher tier ships....

Now, to show this, I'm going to compare two of my ships, both IJN BBs, both with only 7 battles so far in co-op mode.

My Ishizuchi.

Take note of the main battery hit ratio. This is the main stat I am comparing here.

Now, my Mikasa.

Are you starting to see now?

My Mikasa....has a higher hit ratio than my Ishzuchi, which is 2 tiers higher than my Mikasa, and has far more guns.

Now, I know what you're thinking. "But Kitsune! You probably just get very close with the Mikasa and hit them with-in 2km or less!"

Well, for the most part, yes, I do get close. But only a few times now have I actually opened fire with the main guns from with-in 4km. Most shots I've taken, have been farther out, from max range to as close as 5km.

Heres where it gets interesting....when I sail my Ishizuchi....I tend to point my bow right at the enemy and get in close.... sub 5km range, and blast them away with only my front turrets. A few times I've then swung my ship around and opened up with my other guns as well, but I almost NEVER will fire everything all at once.

The other, is that I ripple fire. Even in a BB. I want to make sure all my shots land as close as possible. I watch my first shot fly, judge where they heading, and them compensate for enemy dodge and/or dispersion. I do this with my Ishizuchi as well.

Everything is pointing to the fact the Mikasa is really not as bad as people think. I do not know exactly why this is, or what is causing ect, or why people think the Mikasa is that bad, but, everything is telling me....

Tier for tier.....she is a perfect and very well balanced ship. She can soak up a LOT of damage, including getting rammed by an Orlan and living. (this surprised the hell out of me, I thought for sure I was going to die lol) She is honestly, imo, on the border of being a tier 3 BB.

Now, I am really going to need more battles, with both ships, to fully determine just how well the Mikasa is, compared to other ships, but from what I am seeing....shes brilliant. :)

So yeah, just wanted to post this because I thought it was interesting.

I play the Mikasa the same way I play the Kawachi: use the terrain to get into secondary battery range first, THEN fight. (This often puts you into destroyer territory, so you have to keep your eyes open for them.) Both ships are better with their secondaries than their main guns.

I only use the Mikasa in co op, but if I used it in Random, I would probably do the same thing.

The problem a lot of people have with battleships is that they try to play all battleships like the Fuso or the New Mexico.

That last part doesn't make too much sense to me.... I get close in with my New Mexico as well! Mind you, not as close as I do with my Mikasa, ie, almost literally trading paint with the other ship.... lol

The only thing I think needed a bit of love, is the vertical dispersion, that is too high for a 2x2 loadout, I try to get into secondaries range as well, but I had a lot of shells where one landed in the water before the enemy, and one went over it.

But yeah, I'm loving this ship too.

I've seen this as well, but I've also seen this a lot with other ships as well, so it doesn't bother all that much.

Honestly, the dispersion on the Mikasa doesn't bother me at all, because I know that if I hit at least one round correctly, most of the time, its doing at least 2000 damage. And at tier 1 and 2, that is a decently large amount. :)

How do you do 31k damage, win every battle, and average 300XP? I'm confused.

Read the OP again, you won't be confused.

Spoiler: coop

Uuuuh....pretty sure I stated that all 7 battles so far were in co-op....?

....also....not 100% sure....but the average damage might be influenced by my secondaries, as I had one match where they got a little over 25k damage.... (can someone confirm that for me? If your average damage also includes secondary damage?)

Average damage includes all damage, and then I didn't see the co-op part, sorry about that.

You played 7 games. I had an 80% accuracy rate in my New Mexico for something like 12 games before RNG went RNG and started pulling the dispersion like normal.

Play something like 25 games before you say "it's accurate, everyone else is wrong!".

Yeah I know I need to play more games, I stated that in my OP....but even for something like my Tirpitz, which I have 35 games in, has a main battery hit ratio of about 45% (should I have used the Tirpitz as a comparison instead maybe? Honest question )

I just wanted to point out what I have been seeing personally when I play her compared to what people have told me in some past threads I made about her. (before the contest) All I am saying, is that she just seems to have normal everyday BB dispersion...not this, terribad dispersion that people said she had. *shrugs* All I was doing was making an observation....that was all.... :aqua:

Usually there are few bad ships but a lot of people who don't bother to figure out how a ship should be played. Just because it's a BB doesn't mean standard BB tactics apply. Those who adapt to the strengths of the ship will find success in them. Personally, I love finding the diamonds in the rough because the knowledge gained to play them correctly and successfully usually makes you much better at your other ships as well.

I played her once.  My secondaries did more damage than my main battery.
