Hey guys I am curious about what you all think about the new patch that will be in the PTR.  I think it looks good for the most part although I had a few questions.  I put out a video in YouTube which covers my thoughts on it.

Check out the video and drop me a comment with your thoughts.

I'm predicting that we're going to see a massive drop in the BB population due to nerfing both BB maneuverability and reducing torp detection.  It ends up with WG realizing that a huge amount of players shifted from playing BBs to CA/DDs, and retaliate by over-compensating things in the favor of BBs 1-2 major patches from now where the BB population spikes up above everything else again.  Seriously, one or the other is probably needed, but both at the same time without seeing what happens when they only change one is going too far and I don't see it ending well.

Edit:  Aside from that, the patch looks pretty good.  I just find it funny that the only server that really mentions the fact that the Arpeggio Event framework is going into 5.2 is the Asia server.

My son and I both play and talked about this last night. He's of the same mind. But they are also making the high tiers cheap, which means we might get more interesting high tier games with lots of cruisers and DDs and few BBs. Looking forward to it...

Looks like a good update to me. Personally I don't think torp detection will be that big of a deal, but I agree with Sirus. The people who want to play power classes will see that theirs ships are being changed, and will look for new FotM ships to play.

huge amount of players shifted from playing BBs to CA/DDs

Fine with me. The queue today was a complete joke as far as BB counts vs. cruiser counts. I know most of it is dirpitz, but BB's needed to be taken down a notch anyway. And I say that playing most of my games as BB.

Over all I'm cautiously optimistic about  5.2. I'm liking the cosmetic stuff like the new ports and permanent camo. The new flags and maps are appreciated additions and I'm very happy that the high tier economy is finally getting looked at as well.

The only thing I have worries about is how the rudder shift increase and torp detection will play out. On the surface it doesn't seem terrible but knowing WG and how they like to take a sledgehammer to ship and game balance... I guess we'll just have to wait for opinions from the PTS and final patch release before I have a firm opinion about that tidbit.

Karma to me makes little or no sense,, it is a Word of mouth report/compliment that anyone can just abuse to players they don't like, not based on performance...

At least it looks like there would be no way for WG to regulate anything to do with this report./compliment system...

i like the upper tier income increases, but my feeling is that T8s could also use a slight increase. the real issue is the cost of repairs...i swear that my marblehead earns more than my atago simply due to repair costs (but im better at the MH than atago so its hard to compare). im glad they are at least moving in the right direction with that one and maybe upper tiers will be played more now.

the torpedo spotting and steering nerf to large ships should help DDs which is good, but like mentioned doing both may be too excessive. so WG will have to adjust back again in the future which looks a little hap-hazard.

also, finally some depot functionality, even if it is an auto-system and not a real depot. plus more flags and maps and a general re-balance to earning on select ships outside of T9/10, some optimizations to the client...no complaints there.

I've got almost 60% of my games in cruisers, and I'm still worried they're going to screw the balance of the game by changing both.  BBs are honestly in a good spot right now, and it's more bringing up cruisers and DDs to that spot than trying to drag the BBs down.  The turning radius and rudder shift will also greatly impact a BBs ability to defend itself from a CV as well, so it's not just DDs that are benefiting but the class they've constantly been trying to balance due to it's already high damage output.

The patch will make BBs more vulnerable to CVs and DDs, and thus cruisers will be needed much, much more, but they did little to make cruisers feel less frustrating or more rewarding. The only way that can indirectly happen is having the BB population plummet, resulting in more CA vs CA or CA vs DD. I'm more inclined to believe the remaining BB population will snipe even further back than now due to support being needed more than ever, but having said support ships still being frustrating to play.

IMO, the only ship that benefits from slower BB rudder is CV.

DD torps are not dodged after you spot them, they are dodged by basic evasive maneuvers, long before you even see the torps heading your way.

I'll try this patch for the sole reason of the higher tier economy, if they did it enough they could really save their game.

Then again we don't know how much they did, it could be like 5% bump...which is nothing. 20% is a must in my book.

You'll see the DD become even worse in the higher tiers when the Shima can throw a wall of torps at you, and now you can't really turn away or into the wave as fast....but hey wait and see.

Already seen it and ate it with my NO that has the best rudder and turning radius of T8~10 cruisers.

So, again, dodged by basic maneuvering, rather than after spotted.

PS, the Yamato that the Shima was aiming for ate none.

TOP GUN... i can see a couple of issue over this.

1- Players going after kills not wins.

2- Fighting in chat over "YOU STOLE MY KILL!!!."

I don't understand why you'd take the highest reward flag off of the award for being (usually) one of the most influential people on your team for the game.  You can get 5 kill simply by holding fire and poaching things that are fixing to sink, but Confederate takes constantly firing and doing good damage to pull off.

It's rather difficult to get, somewhere between Confederate and Solo Warrior.  You're probably right that 1 and 2 will appear, but it should quickly die down and become one of those flags that you happily get during a good game.

On the bright side, if I see a pink ship, I can tell whether it was by accident or a serious TKer with this system.  If it's really negative, it's a good sign that I should run in the other direction.

Put another way.  If you're not willing to be one of the sheeple, expect to get constantly dinged.  This Karma thing is no different from the up and down votes that used to be on these forums.  And I wish that WG would just drop it.  It's nothing but a popularity contest.  IMO, it's totally stupid and needs to go.

Agree - I lose money on my tier 9 DDs with prem and a bunch of flags :(
