From bad to average, it's a struggle...

I've been playing a couple of months and it's been quite an adventure.

It was a difficult start and there's still a lot to learn.

Sometimes I think that I'm a good player, but then a REALLY good player shatters my dream.

I got frustrated, but luckily decided to do something about it.

Reread all the guides, tips and tricks that I could find and watched the clips on youtube again.

But recently I started observing other players (it's great that you can do that after you sank) and that's been very helpful.

I've had the privilige to see many excellent players.  And of course I tried to copy their style of playing the game. That has proved to be very difficult, duh.

So it was back to reality and set myself a realistic goal : try to become an average player.

I'm definitely not there yet, but the frustration is gone.

Slowly (very slowly) my XP and "damage-done" figures are going up.

I still make plenty of bad moves and mistakes, but at least now I know (sometimes) WHAT I did wrong.

Whenever possible I try to learn from my mistakes and try to improve.

Sometimes it feels like I'm avoiding a certain mistake only to make another one, but to me that's part of the learning curve.

I will take many more months to become an average player, but there's no hurry.

90% of the battles are great fun, which makes my learning curve pleasant.

Please keep posting those guides, videos and tips & tricks. They are highly appreciated.

Thank you my fellow players for all those nice ( and tough) battles, and for all those hours of great fun.

I hope to see you all in future battles.

Sincerely

Pascal

confer your avg performance for ships against the averages in warshipstats.com, and then compare them to the top players in those ships. self stats rising is a result from getting better, but can also be from just advancing tier.

I

like

how

you

spaced

every

other

sentence

so

it

was

so

easy

to

read.

That being said, anyone having issues at low-tiers or mid, just bust off on some co-op. It ain't gonna hurt you monetarily.. unless you just flat out Ray Charles cant hit anything with whatever weapon type you're shooting with.

This especially goes for you initial CV drivers. Please dear GOD learn to play in co-op first.

Greetings fellow sailor -

I too am trying to improve my skills. My global stats also indicate I am below average, but I realized something: the truly bad players usually drop out. This means the the remainder, as a group, are better than average. That means that, if a player reaches "average" stats, they are actually better than the average player that ever competed in a match.

Another thing, once a player has accumulated thousands of matches, raising stats gets harder and harder. A better way to tell what progress, if any, is being made is to look at the stats from the last month, not the total "career".

Hope to see you on my team, I'll know you have a good attitude.:honoring:

Nice to see someone talking positive and is having fun, seems too often just see people complaining about anything and everything. It was very refreshing to see and hope you keep improving in your game play and keep having fun.

I play the first few games in a new ship in co op to get a bit of a feel for it and grab some xp to start upgrading it before going into a random.

I will also stick playing a ship until I am happy that I am consistent in it and my average damage is around the average for my server on that ship, just because I have unlocked the next ship and have the credits to buy it does not mean I am ready to go up a tier, (much better to have fun in a ship you can play than be a drag on your team because you are trying to rush up the tiers)

I would rather take my time and ensure I am at least pulling my weight at a tier before going up and underperforming (and like so many then complaining about the game and refusing to believe it may be the keyboard/chair interface)

I am not one of these that seem to measure performance by how many high tiers they have or how quick they got them, I measure how effective players are by how they perform in a particular ship compared to everyone else in that ship.

Time taken to relax and learn is seldom wasted and makes you a better player further down the line.

I am a below average player. In order to improve I started watching videos (especially Notser and iChase). I am now pretty good at tactics and strategy. What I need to improve is my gunnery.

My goals were set with a spreadsheet where I register the daily stats from the main webpage (avg damage, K/D ratio, W/R, avg XP), with a line graph for the damage. I can see I am definitely improving, having upped my abv damage by over 10% and my K/D ratio going from 0.79 to 0.97 in the last two months (1700+ battles so each one moves the needle marginally, which makes it difficult). I can see positive improvement.

As a minimum I try to:

1. Not suck

2. Not derp

3. Carry my weight in the team

4. Make at least more damage than my ship's HP

5. Have fun every time

I am now accomplishing all points, except sometimes I fail #2. Then it's back to analyze and learn not to repeat. It's working.

GL

I'm still a bit below average, I think.  And just had a so so game point wise, but was proud of myself.  Piloting a CR, I ran a dd away from a BB, getting several hits and forcing the dd to pop smoke.  Due to pressure from two other BBs and a CR, the BB and I both had to retreat.   The DD tried to end run and torp the BB, and I was able to intervene and destroy the DD.

Again, not many points that game, but I had a lot of personal satisfaction in keeping that BB alive.

Keep playing and you'll get more and more of these games:

1. You solidly contributed the a team win. Satisfying. Fun.

And the ultimate:

2. You made the difference. You helped turn a game around. Things were looking bleak and then you took charge and wreaked havoc on the enemy. Multiple kills. Top score. Victory! Those games may be rare (at least at first), but they will keep you coming back again and again.

'Wings' the best tune to march to :), my Corps March (ok some of you may dispute that but Sappers are the best lol).

@OP: One thing you may find useful is replays - watching what happened while not trying to shoot at the same time allows you to better understand what went wrong in any given scenario and what would have been the best way to avoid that.

Do you mean watching your own replays ? How do you do that ?

Also new, also below average-to-average, but my biggest challenge is that having a strategy, however good it is, is almost useless in a PUG, You have to adapt to varying levels of experience, skill and decision-making in your team-mates, and it seems completely random to me.  As a result, I still don't know the best place to deploy the different kinds of ships on a given map or where/when I should be engaging the enemy to get the maximum impact of the type of ship I'm in.  That said, having a good team (and more importantly: a team that communicates effectively) really makes all the difference.

1. Enable replays (they go into replays\ folder)

2. Double-click on the one you want and enjoy the show.
