2 tier MM thoughts-Considering the amount of teamwork in this game

So, I was in a match in my Tenryu(III) and about 1/3 through the match I find myself head to head with a Furataka(V). I look for an avenue of escape, but find none that would safely let me out, so I take the only action available to me. Face him and call for help. So, I am dueling him juking this way and that, firing everything I had at him at the longest range I could(I could not go to max range or I would be running into land constantly). So, I ended up duelling with him for about 10 minutes, the entire time calling for assistance. Eventually the Furataka decided he didn't have to even move, so he stopped dead in the water, with his broadside to me after 8 1/2 minutes of dueling and just started firing. Wiped me out in moments. As for what I did to him? Roughly half of his health gone. As for my wonderful teammates? Not a single one of them even turned my direction, let alone attempted to assist me, as I had, earlier that match assisted another cruiser in escaping a tier 4 BB, that very same match.

I'm just wondering if the tier system, in the end, considering the nearly complete lack of teamwork in this game, works. Now, I know, with the amount of people in this game currently, doing anything differently would mean massive queue times, but maybe in the future, when there are more players, if WG would consider a system in which ships would not see any more than 1 tier up or down from their tier?

Now, I may add this thought, however. Could a tier 3 take out a tier 5? Yes. I'm not saying that since I could not do it, it cannot be done. However, in a 1 v 1 duel in which both ships have eachother's undivided attention, as long as the tier 5 makes few mistakes, the tier 5 is going to win 9 out of 10 times. A tier 3 going against a tier 5 really needs to do EVERYTHING perfectly and hope the tier 5 makes a lot of mistakes in order to win this fight. I have taken out a tier 5 in my tier 3, but that tier 5 made the big mistake of completely ignoring me, or just plain not noticing me. That is how I was able to.

If you can't beat them, then try to be that 1/10 times the T3 kills the T5.  Against Furutaka you should have closed range, switched to AP and citadeled/torped him.  Learn ships strengths and weaknesses

I would have liked to close the range, but, I also forgot to mention I was staying out of range of a tier 4 Battleship. This Battleship also had been firing on my previously. I had to force a 1 v 1 rather than sit in a 2 v 1 situation.

Tenryu is basically a IJN destroyer, play it like one, unless you had no alternative your best bet was to turn around maybe drop some torps and stop firing try to retain your concealment then head to the nearest battleship. Just my opinion though.
