Top Tier ships..

T6 New Mexico

T6 Independence

T6 Nurnberg: Ready for T7 Yorck

T7 Pensacola: Ready for T8 New Orleans

DD

T7 Manhan: Ready for T8 Benson

T7 Kiev: Ready for T8 Tashkent

As you can see I have a few options, but sticking to DD's, I'm looking at the Benson and the Tashkent. Speaking realistically, the Benson is the better choice IMO, however I'm thinking ahead to the T10 ships.

When I'm not DD hunting, my play style with the Kiev tends to run along these lines..

I'm not invis of course, but I steer like I have 80% Vodka/ 20% blood running through my veins. It works well so I can "heard" and make sure all eyes are on me. I would like to keep up a similar play style, so the Khabarovsk would fit me perfectly. Now, I have seen vids where the Gearing is just an overwhelming force to reckon with and it would seem to have more options of what style you play. I haven't watched anything specifically showing this type of style being played, however Ill site what was said in the vid above that the Gearing "could" in fact run along

the same lines. If a Gearing could fit this role, then the Gearing IMO would be the better choice because you would have more options on how to play. You could sneak in and torp, or pea shoot at distance setting fires and just being a general menace.

My head tells me to follow through to the Gearing, but my heart stands firmly with
the Khabarovsk.

What to do, what to do.....

The Kiev is meh fighting other DD's it will almost always win unless you get torped but in guns it will almost always win but you will sacrifice lots of health in doing so. As chase said the RU DD's are amazing at area denial since no Battleship will push a ship that is constantly hitting it and burning it. The rest of the team won't push without the battleships and it leads to quite effective area denial even without invisifiring..

I have a robust fear of Khabarovsks when playing my Fletcher and Gearing. I avoid them at all costs unless they are desperately low on HP.

Kiev is the best tier 7 DD hunter and to this day I will stand by this, the Kiev is a tier 9 in a tier 7s body.

Your choice comes down to playstyle.  Khab is going to shine as a fast light cruiser, generally long range spammer.  Gearing has a more versatile role.  You can change your playstyle more with a Gearing by swapping your equipment and perks.  Also, it is likely that RU DDs will suffer a nerf in the near future, while USN DDs are likely to get some luv.  Need to consider that too.

Now for Gearing vs Khab in a fight... at close range (6k and under) the Gearing is more deadly verse a Khab.  Gearing is 20x6x1800 verse 13x8x1600 for the Khab.  The almost double rate of fire and 10% more damage from a Gearing will overcome a Khab's gun count and fire advantage (even my Fletcher hasn't lost a knife fight to a Khab yet).  However, its so tight at close range, it really comes down to who shot and landed first.  Anything beyond 8k and the Khab absolutely rules.  Other national DDs will miss more at longer range.
