Impressions after been away from game a few months...

Hi all,

Just thought I would put my impressions after coming back to the game yesterday after a break for a couple of months (moving home and find out all of a sudden no internet in my area...... wth.....). Anyhow in a few dot points here's what I noticed and wondered if I could get a few answers or summaries from peeps. Before anybody says have you looked up stuff before, yes I have but some is not talked about much from what I can find or maybe I just cannot find it).

 

- Has BB accuracy and chances at getting citadels become much easier? I know there was a recent problem with armour and AP, but compared to a few months back, took my kongo etc out and the amount of citadels I could get seems significantly higher than before (this froma person a bit rusty as well so my aiming was crap for first few games till I got the hang of it again.) Dmg seems fairly easy or much easier to get in BB compared to a few months back.

 

- can someone explain what disease has killed all the CVs now? Only saw them maybe tier 6ish and below..... See lots of nerf bat etc etc with low speed torps but did anything else happen too?

 

- Yubari..... once one of my favourites, seems to still go pop very easy, maybe im out of practice but in case its not just me been rusty, pls confirm is it still decidedly average?

 

- Atago..... what a beast still and now with damage repair as well.... how is it this ship as a pemium feels like such a beast and was given a buff (not complaining, but the whole prem ship better than stock but worse than elite normal ship thing seems odd.... and its not russian either like the murmansk etc)

 

- Mogami 6' guns do very little dmg with HE it seems to higher tier CA and up armoured ships, is this new or was this always the case. Is the 203 the better gun now for it (only had just started this ship when I left game for a while).

 

- Warspite.... just got, like it, is it soaked in petrol though as for some reason it seems to be BBQ season all the time on it (admittedly only a few games so this might just be me imagining it).

 

Cheers and sure there is more to ask but though i would get the ball rolling to start with (and thanks anybody for info as I am been a little lazy and seeking to get peoples summaries of the state of the game changes with the last few months).

I don't own most of the ships you mention, although I have found your observations to ring true when I play against them. I also agree with your sentiment regarding the lack of CVs and your speculation as to why they are so rare nowadays. It makes me sad when my AA spec cruisers have nothing to shoot down :(.

Citadel's are back to how they used to be as far as water no longer rendering a shell dead. However, they fixed the bug where if a round hit the Cit and didn't penetrate it would still act as though it did damage wise. Past that, maybe your just more relaxed and aiming better. Also, if your shooting German cruisers... they are floating Citadels like the Japanese.

Not sure as I don't play them, but I know there was a screwed up deal on captain perks that gave +100% bonus when attacking higher tier aircraft for a while. And they slowed the torpedo speeds and widened the spread making them easier to dodge.

Still weak, have only played mine once since game went out of OBT... no word on buff.

Absolute beast of a ship. Now that more are about the player base is learning how to counter them easier. Yeah they burn but suggest letting it burn itself out (if only one) and use damage repair. Tier for Tier though, anything that shows you its broadside... to quote Jingles... "That's a paddlin"

One of the patches (5.1 I think) made it such that a CV cannot drop into a match until the other team can also have a CV of the exact same tier.  So at high tiers captains have found that you could wait 10+ minutes in a tier IX or X CV and not drop, so they have quit playing their CVs at those high tiers.  I think this is why you don't see many at those tiers now.

You cannot see them until it's to late but it gets worse when DDs can pop a smoke and stop moving 2.2km off and remain stealthed. Also how the hell can a battleship be caught on fire from HE shells impacting... well anywhere. I get that the game is arcade but that is exactly why I just don't play anymore. These things are just infuriating. There is no RNG to torp accuracy on DDs and they even get told where to aim if the target is moving in a straight line. Yeah, no I'm not falling into the repair costs either. It honestly seems that SerB is even here too.

Mogami's turrets got softer but I never recall its HE damage to be weak.  Its HE damage is humongous, considering its HE shell gets 2600 damage, compared to the New Orlean's 2800 damage for an 8" shell, and the Mogami got 15 guns firing at a higher 6 rounds per minute each.  There appears to be some buff on the IJN HE that appears to increase fire chances.

The torps are just plain stupid. You cannot see them until it's to late

 

Rubbish. I can dodge them in a Kawachi, and if that floating TOG can dodge torps, anything can.

1.  Torps are NOT stupid.  You want historical accuracy on HE shells, but not on torpedoes?  IIRC, historically accurate torpedoes would be a lot more difficult to detect, not easier.

 

2. HE Shells.  It's called game balance.  If not for HE, a lot of cruisers and DDs might as well be shooting spitballs at BB for all the good it'd do them.

 

3. OMG.... torpedoes get an aim assist ... whatever shall I do?  Try using the ASWD keys.  Try changing speeds.   For crying out loud, there was a post last night where a DD player was whining up a storm over how a BB could avoid his 9 torp spread fired at only 3 km.  Don't tell me that they can't be avoided!!!  They can!

 

Frankly, it seems to me that you're hypocritical in what you want and not particularly good when it comes to avoiding something that a lot of other players don't have all that much trouble avoiding.

Carriers are an endless game of chess against the other carrier's fighters.  No fun, and plane kills give crap xp/credits.

 

Mogami's HE seems broken, there was a video shortly after 5.1 by Aeroon showcasing this.

The citadel hits I was getting were against all type, Japanese cruisers was the usual easy hits, the germans too. The surprise was things like the cleveland which from memory were really hard to hit, but was getting them at least in the few games I played consistently.... BB vs BB citadels seemed about the same as what I remembered but the cruisers were the big thing I really noticed, infinitely more squishy (but proviso again this was limited to just a few games so....)

 

As to torpedos and DD, definantly don't think people can complain about them now, was lucky to hit anybody last night in my tier 6 ijn one (but to be fair I had kind of expected this from prior forum posts and was trying to play a little less gungho..... (that been said I was using my guns allot more frequently.... this when the torps were meant to be the ijn thing I thought.) Anyhow long story short people seemed to dodge and see my torps far far earlier now than they did a few months back...

 

The HE in my mogami was just knocking out AA and secondary guns or doing nothing 9/10 hits with no damage I found vs higher or equal tier armoured BB>CA. This been said in closed beta I never did like the 6' guns (call me odd but preferred the 203 guns then and hope it improves when I get em unlocked on my mog!)

With the 155 HE, you absolutely have to hit the superstructure or the very tips of the bow and stern to get solid damage out of them.  The 203s still need a buff though, as the only thing you gain with them over the Myoukou is turret traverse while you lose rate of fire.

Hmmm but I was, or what I could see were superstructure hits, hence all the AA guns going up in smoke....?

HE rounds have an impact radius, you could hit the belt but if it's close enough to the AAA mount it'll still destroy it.

Max almost range firing at them coming straight at me or just an angle (as anyone would in a BB) so dont think it was belt armour, landing all over the xmas tree which is the superstructure.... anyways methinks ill enjoy the 203s better, hate the fact that you have to burn other cruisers when you could be punching citadels instead.
