http://en.wikipedia....SS_Maine_(ACR-1) - More info on it.

USS Maine (ACR-1) was the United States Navy's second commissioned battleship and the first U.S. Navy ship to be named after the state of Maine.[a][1] Originally classified as an armored cruiser, she was built in response to the Brazilian battleship Riachuelo and the increase of naval forces in Latin America. Maine and her near-sister ship Texas reflected the latest European naval developments, with the layout of her main armament resembling that of the British ironclad Inflexible and comparable Italian ships. Her two gun turrets were staggered en échelon, one sponsoned out on each side of the ship, with cutaways in the superstructure to allow both to fire ahead, astern or across her deck. She dispensed with full masts thanks to the increased reliability of steam engines by the time of her construction.

I dont think it would make a good tier III, not even a tier I. Not that it is a bad ship or anything but, as most World of _____ games do, WoWS will probably focus around WWII ships. The USS Maine ACR-1 was built in 1886, 43 years before WWII. And with at least 15 classes of battleships built before the end of WWI, Using the main as tier III, would leave little room for other classes of battleships that saw service in WWII.

Sorry but its way to early for the game the tier 1s are probably going to be from the 1910s not 1886

What's to keep WG from following the US line of battleships as they were made.  Start at the ships made prior to but used in WWI like the Utah and just advance from there by class.

Overall there are 15 classes of USN Dreadnaughts/Battleships.  Split the number and create two battleship lines starting at tier 3 or so and you have a pretty good looking USN battleship tree.

The other issue is that you can't really have a CL/CA line going to top tier to match up with a similar tier battleship.  Possibly the only instance that this would work is by comparing a Maus to a T-44/T-54.  Making the CL/CA ships much more maneuverable and versatile than the battleships.

Assuming that we get a Battleship at Tier 2 (with Tier 1 being some kind of intro ship), Id guess it will be the USS South Carolina.

It was made along the same time frame as the HMS Dreadnaught, and had some of the same design concepts. (However, it did not have the speed of the British ship, which became a serious limitation later on).

another question is about how they will deal with refits.  Original battleships from the 1910's compared to their 1930's refits wouldn't stand much of a chance.

Assuming they run things like WoT, that will be your in-ship grinding.  Grind to get that fire control radar, that improved engine plant, better AA...

I could see the South Carolina as a tier 2-3 ship. Especially because there is a good chance the low tiers will be mostly Dreadnaughts

It will be interesting once the trees come out and we will see what levels we get battleships and such.

That's a lot of grinding.  You have the fire control system, main guns, secondary guns, tertiary guns, engines, boilers, bridge systems, look out posts, and radar that were all changed during refits for most of the ships that were refit.

I wonder if they'll have the ballistic computer upgrade for the Iowa and Montana class?

It's way too early to tell, but I'd guess they'll consolidate some of those things.  For instance, you mention engines and boilers seprately, but I'll bet that they'll be consolidated as "power plant" or the like.  For that matter, I'm not sure that secondary armament will have any major use.  It may simply be Primary and AA. (not sure how things like the 5/38 DP will work for AA though).

Agreed, it is too early for the planned scope of the game.
