Whenever you press 1, you select your ship. Depending on the CV you have, you will have a number of squadrons. For example, the langley has 2 squads - a fighter and a torpedo bomber. Fighters are usually enumerated before bombers. In the case of just these two squads, the fighters will be bound to 2, and the bombers to 3. To launch planes: - Select a squadron (press 2-9 depending on how many sqaudrons you have and which one you want to launch) - Press F to have it launch and automatically guard your ship, or click somewhere else on the map to automatically launch and set a waypoint to that location. To move planes: - Select one or more squadrons and assign waypoints just as you would do with your ship. To attack: - click on an enemy ship. This initiates an automatic attack. The planes will attack from the angle indicated. You can click the marker on the edge of the engagement circle and move the angle of attack around. This can be beneficial since bombers work best when they attack from the bow of the ship, and torpedo bombers work best when they attack from the side of a ship. To manually attack: To force a squadron to land and re-arm: press F. You can cancel at any time by giving that squadron alternate orders, unless it has already begun its landing approach. To toggle between first person ship mode and airplane view - press SHIFT. Use first person ship mode to help you avoid torpedoes and set automatic defense targets. You can also do this from air mode but some people find it easier to do in first person mode. Hope this gets you started! 552 [NDA] InvalidKey Alpha Tester 1,658 posts 6,794 battles Report post #4 Posted November 2, 2015 I'd also recommend getting used to CVs in co-op mode. The bots are a lot more predictable than players in random battles. It will give you some time to figure things out while still making a bit of progress toward upgrades. 855 Carrier_Taiyo Beta Testers 2,420 posts 1,809 battles Report post #6 Posted November 2, 2015 The tier 4 carriers only have fighters and torpedo bombers. They don't come with dive bombers. To fly the planes, highlight the squadron you want to command, then click on the water where you want the planes to go. To use a torpedo bomber, select the squadron (by pressing its number or by clicking its icon) to highlight the squadron. With the squadron highlighted, there are 2 ways to attack. One way to attack is to simply click the enemy ship (commonly called "Auto Drop".) The other way to attack is to hold the ALT button. It makes a sight appear to manually select where the torpedoes will drop. To drive your carrier the way you would drive a normal ship, press 1 - z. (That is, press the 1 key to highlight your carrier, then press z to change the camera angle. Press z again to change it back.) To see the full squadron (instead of just seeing one plane) press esc to go to the settings screen and choose "animate small objects." This will also let you see enemy anti-aircraft artillery. I recommend you practice in co op mode until you get the hang of the basic controls.
