Izumo: Why.

The Izumo is TERRIBLE! Her armor is just atrocious, even with the second and third hull upgrade! Her turrets are all mounted in front... that's a bummer too. Even while angled or going straight in, SOMEHOW I still get penned and eaten alive by shells. Her gun dispersion is absolute crap as well. Why did WG even add this ship? There HAS to be better options than the.... Izumo...

I've heard people bouncing a lot of shells by being medium-ish range and angled directly 90 degrees forward, ignoring her 3rd turret.

Which is probably why she has the fastest turret traverse speed of any normally obtainable Japanese Battleship, and why her dispersion is bad-- She's a brawler.

Also her stock shells may be bugged, stick to HE until you get to the B hull since AP won't be able to penetrate a chunk of butter.

I'm at the B hull right now, but I'm still having troubles. Are you saying I should go into the battle to about <13km away? While angling?

If you show your broadside in any battleship,  Your gonna have a bad day.   Izumo is no exception to this rule.

13-ish km, I reckon. Rather, the absence of angling... Instead of showing any of your broadside just show your bow, like a reverse crossing the T where the enemy just sees your bow, and nothing of your broadsides. Slow your speed to 1/2 or 1/4 so you don't run into them at Mach 0.05.

I have no personal experience with Izumo, just going off by me spectating my friends post-mortem-- he seemed to bounce a lot of shells doing this, although the turrets break every few volleys. He only ended up using the 3rd turret against flanking and surprise rear attacks, which is where the fast turret rotation comes in handy.

Edit: Basically what i'm saying is my friend did best when he angled as if he didn't have that 3rd turret.

There are a few previous Izumo threads floating around this forum with plenty of good advice.  Get close enough that your deck armor isn't an issue, but not so close that you're going to lose control of your angling; 8-16km is the sweet spot.  If you go bow-on as others have said you're going to lose turret because that's all the enemy has to hit.  Angle enough to use all three turrets.  You'll be tough to citadel but will take some normal penetrations.  Ignore the urge to build around secondaries.  Buff main battery accuracy and main battery reload, and you can do some real damage.  It's an odd ship but it's playable.

Tosa at t8 and Kii at t9 would have been the better choices

also are you playing stock hull? because fully upgraded izumo dispersion is techincally better than both nagato and amagi, 3rd behind yamato and fuso for ijn bbs

For a separate pre-WNT line.

Or preimum?  BB Kaga plz.

You know, at some point they're going to have to make more lines.

That

Hopefully they at least buff the armor a little at a distance.. deck armor and belt armor if anything.

That's the main problem, I have no problem bounces BB shells and even going head to head with more than one. It's the fact that every cruiser does full HE damage on you which means a ton of damage if more than one. Don't even think about turning, if I have to turn I expect to lose half my health so if I'm below half then I just keep going forward until I die. It's really badly designed.
