So I have recently been getting higher in the japan destroyer tree. I have watched every video, and looked through the posts but still need help. I have been constantly having trouble since I hit tier 8. yeah 15km torps are good but I am missing a lot of my torpedoes . For instance I have been using wide spread above 10km and below 2km(If I survive) but the change from around 6/7 really has me baffled. I thought about switching lines but I still have some hope left so I thought I would post here looking for any advice.

Now I am a carrier person and by no means am I a destroyer expert but you should try picking your fights . As in baiting the enemies close to islands and ambush torping them .

I have the same DD as you have yes 15 km is great but do not use the wide spread with the distance your wide spread is crossing 2 postal codes. Your tight spread start looking like a wide spread at long range (above 10KM) however players at higher tier do know to change course often so I prefer for me to launch torps between 7.5-10 kms. Hope this helps. As a note  you will have games that nothing hits and the next one you will get more then 5....

I'm about halfway through the grind to the Shimakaze. The grind isn't as bad as it might seem. It's not turning out to be as bad as I imagined it would be anyway. As to the torpedo hit percentage thing, get used to low hit rates. The average hovers at around 6%. I run at 6% personally, although at lower tiers I had as high as 14%. I chalk it up to skill progression on the part of my targets, and my seeming to getting stuck in the role of fighting delaying actions against multiple ships. Torp use in delaying actions drives hit rates down, but I deal with it because it's what's necessary to allow time for whatever backup is coming to get there. Team wins mean more to me than my own stats.

One recommendation I can make is: don't use too many wide spreads at long-range targets.  Your spread will keep getting wider and wider the farther it travels, to the point where several aircraft carriers can fit between your torpedoes at long range.  Overlapping narrow spreads are the way to go when firing at something past about 7km.  If they miss, they miss; reload and go again.  Wide spreads are usually better for closer ranged, broadside type engagements where you really want your  target to turn or you just need to land one torpedo to get him. The only time I use wide spreads at long range is when firing into a big pack of ships that are all moving together

The Fubuki was one ship I didn't feel like I struggled in yet just couldn't buy a win so I was likely doing something wrong (will re-buy eventually to prove to myself I can do it). What I do for the most part is fire from 7-10km, always narrow spread. The only time I use wide spread is when I don't expect a hit and want a ship to turn ie. in a destroyer fight where it doesn't look like he'll get within "sure-torp hit" distance, and even then I usually just do one wide-spread and one or two (depending on ship) narrow spread. Also Overlapping spreads is a good idea. A good basic overlap is fire once right at the guide, once 1/2 on 1/2 behind the guide, and once right behind. That can often net a hit or two on players that sail at full speed and slow/turn at a sign of torpedoes.

Your average damage is pretty abysmal in them.  not sure why as we have about the same torp hit rate in the higher tier ones.

i must use my guns more.

Stop using wide spread immediately and stop launching torp above 10 kms all the time just because you can, occasionally yes but try to get as close as possible, 80% of the time. By the number of battle you have in DD, you're yet to have the 5th captain skill, a crucial point for high tier play.

Honestly, i suggest you stop playing at high tier because you haven't learn how to properly play DD, drop down tier and practice your torp drop angle and how to torp BB at the edge of your detection range. Don't rush to tier 10 as you're not at all ready for it.
