I now have the Omaha and my first cute little catapult plane.  When should I launch it?  Is there an art to this? I have no control over it after it is launched....correct?  Never have looked into this cause I have never had one.  Tks

By the way I like the Omaha better than I do the Phoenix.  Thus far.  I can see it being pretty damn good once I get things upgraded.

No control, it just fly's around for 5 minutes, then goes on cool down for a certain time,  so use it when you want to give yourself a bit more spotting, (If you know a DD is lurking) you can possibly spot him, or when you want a little more air cover than just your AA guns.

I normally send my catapult fighter up when i see enemy bombers/fighters coming my way it helps take them out.

Launch it when bombers are about 10km out and headed your way.

It may not shoot any down, but will panic bombers and make their spread really wide, making DBs more likely to miss, and TB torps easier to dodge.

Try to avoid putting it up near enemy fighters though.

For the record, I use the C hull, good AA for the tier and higher main gun range being more valuable to me than 2 guns and extra torps you get with the B hull.

If there's no CVs in the match, use it for a slight increase to spotting.

try it in co-op a few times - you probably won't like what it does to your aiming

You're thinking of the Murmansk, it has a scout plane as opposed to the Omaha's float fighter.

in that case - target the enemy planes -- and let the fighter hold them while you shoot them down

I generally use my plane as an extra layer of AA defense. If you see bombers closing in on your area send the little bugger up. He's not much good against CV's fighters but he can do nasty things to unescorted bombers. The fighter will auto-attack anything in range once launched, so time it right and get the most use out of it.

My float plane fighters have shot down planes several minutes after my ship has been sunk many times, on occasion, even two. While planes shot down don't earn much, every little bit helps. Plus, it might contribute to my team's chance of a win.

had the unique opportunity to watch them in action lately.

they don't quite do that.

in fact - you can have your fighters sneak up on them from behind

Please explain how I can direct them to have them do that (other than not launching them until I think they will attack the planes I want them to as they are the closest).

The best un-intended use I like to have a plane for is to look around corners.  As I approach an island where I expect an ambush, out goes the plane to get spotting on what is around the island.

It helps to prevent you from walking into a trap.

I launch mine closer to the front to take few peeks (hopefully) beyond the islands.
