so Amagi?

im very close to getting an Amagi and ive heard its a great ship but i just noticed that it actually has 50mm less hull armor then the Nagato?? I know it is technically a BC but how fragile is this bad boy? i cringe enough when i think im not angled enough in the Nagato and shells are flying in at tier 7, now ill be at 250ish mm's of armor in tier 8? i hope she turns a little quicker then Nagato.

She is a good ship, faster, and more powerful, and the gun arcs aren't too bad, to the point where you can keep a good angle while having all guns lined up on a target

The furthest IJN BB I have is Nagato.  From my time facing off with Amagi while playing NC and Tirpitz, Amagi's armament must be respected.  But give me an opening on her sides and she's in trouble.  Here's a thread where Misrith praises the Amagi.  The angling you can do with her is needed considering her armor protection.  I'd like to get to play Amagi myself one of these days.

It's good.  The armor is more than enough when you're angled properly, but it will punish you if you're caught broadside.  The rudder shift is pretty good.  It can be a little rough stock for several reasons, so get the next hull ASAP.

The key with Amagi is never, never, give the broadside. Her similar tier 8's all have tougher armor so you must be adept at angling and firing. Do this and Amagi will do you a fine service

Amagi is really great. The only downside is that it is armoured with tinfoil, so going full broadside will be punished. Heavily.

Dont skip this ship at all only ship i suggest skipping over is the Izumo which is horrible played whit it in CBT and god it was bad...

great ship, the armor really sucks. The secondaries are decent with the right skills and upgrades.

 

To bad the next ship in the tree is a total pos.

she struggles in T9-10 matches because of range, that's when you have to do what she isn't particularly good at and get closer. But at her tier and below she can snipe.

sniping bb's make me cringe, though i guess in the case of the armor here i may be forced to do so..... nothing annoys me more then your teams BB's hanging back not engaging

Amagi is a battle cruiser, not a battleship.  Like everyone said, her armor is paper thin.  If you show your broadside (and sooner or later it'll happen, either through your mistake or enemy flanking maneuvers) you will pay.  Multi citadels happen to you in that boat.  She's also huge, one of the longest boats in the game.  Longer than an Iowa or an Iowa (Izumo and Montana might be larger, I haven't gotten close enough to either to compare).

 

Now, all that said, Amagi does have nice guns.  Accurate, and there's ten of them.  There's no doubt the boat can do good damage.

 

Really it comes down to if you like battle cruisers or pure battleships more.  If you like battle cruisers (as most people do) you'll like the Amagi a lot.  If you're a pure battleship guy then Amagi will be your least favorite of the tier 8 BBs.  Personally I'm a pure battleship guy, but I don't dislike the Amagi.  I just prefer my North Carolina and Tirpitz.

I loved mine it was infinitely better than the Izumo. The amount of hurt those gun can lay down is astonishing and the speed is nice. Just don't show your broadside haphazardly. But man I loved it killed some Yamatos in it.

I never felt the need to hang back in the Amagi any more than my other battleships.  If you're good at angling you can just play it normally.  If you've relied on thick armor to protect you from your own mistakes, then you'll need to be a bit more cautious than usual.

I was grinding stock Amagi and that was painful with 18k range. Especially cuz u get pulled into tier 10 matches quite a bit. Caused my win rate to dip A lot. 

 

It it played very different from Nagato and has much less forgivin with no armor. 

 

Fully upgraded and after getting used to its play style, u will discover that it can one shot ppl quite often. Great damage from accurate guns but glass canon.

Very Very good ship, it doesn't really excel until you get the hull upgraded but you can angle very well and deflect most shots while being able to fire all 5 turrets on a target. I highly recommend not selling it for the Izumo, I did and I regret not being able to take it to this day and I have yet to have saved enough to rebuy and upgrade it.
