Which should I get next? Mogami or Iowa.

I've got both the Myoko and North Carolina maxed out. I really liked both ships. The next upgrade on both of these lines is really supposed to be the creme of the line. Which should I get first? Which ship has the least difficult stock configuration because I am going to have to run the stock through on these - though I will be able to train the captain on atlanta or fujin.

Stock Mogami has the 15 155's . . . DPM heaven!

I got to say I love the Mogami! Great cruiser and so is the Ibuki which the Mogami leads to. But, its really about what tyoe of ship you prefer. Both Iowa and Mogami are great ships so either way I would say you come out pretty good!

Here are my thoughts on both:

 

Iowa, on paper and configuration it doesn't seem like it should be a huge step up from North Carolina, but it is.  It's guns are more accurate and hit harder.  It's faster.  It has better armor and glorious AA.  And, like you said, it's an iconic ship.  I am averaging about 10k more damage per match in the Iowa compared to the North Carolina and able to run a profit most matches with premium.  Based on your similar NC stats to mine (it's actually scary how similar our stats are in that ship), I predict you'll be in the same boat.

 

Mogami is also great, but it feels like less of an evolution and more of a different philosophy.  As mentioned, when configured with it's 155mm guns, it's a firehose of fire and brimstone.  5 turrets x 3 barrels x 6+ rounds per minute of pain.  It's AP shells tear through cruisers and do ok against BBs, and it's HE is a menace.  I also MUCH prefer it's front turret layout to Myoko.  I was always battling with that rear facing front turret on Myoko.  Now with Mogami the turrets turn in a much more predictable and useful fashion.  You can stay head on and angled and dish the pain, swinging side to side much better now.

 

If I had to choose one, I'd choose Iowa, cause I enjoy BBs the most.  But Mogami is also a hoot, so definitely plan to get it soon as you can after Iowa.

BB play is BB play.  Big guns, high alpha damage, etc.  The ship changes, but the style doesn't.

 

Cruiser play style does change based on a couple of different factors, most notably gun size.  You've played enough cruiser by now to know that Mogami will play very differently from Myoko.  

Mogami is a tremendous amount of fun, more than capable of holding her own in even Tier X games.  The 155s are a nice break from the last 3 tiers of 203s, and give you more battlefield flexibility as well as better synergy with your captain's skills (most notably BFT and AFT).  

Besides, Mogami eventually leads to the best cruiser in the game (Zao).  Iowa can't say that! ;)

Great points. I will certainly be running this ship in time. Making coin is the biggest hindrance for me right now. Maybe Mogami would be a better choice because I can actually profit with the ship where Iowa is more than likely a breaking even kind of ship.

An average game for me in Mogami nets me about 200k profit.  YMMV, of course.
