Okay, so, I'm not /that/ inexperienced. I even like to think I'm fairly good at this game. But I just had a match that bugs me...

I thought I did alright. 61 hits, 2.5 bases captured, five fires set... Average, maybe a bit less. But I got a base exp of only 282. I was the only tier IV in the match, too. Can somebody explain why I got such a low EXP from this match? I'm really curious.

its because you only managed 9,594 damage

on a decent match a Umikaze can do 20k and its a tier 2

its not about hits its about net damage (and worse  . . . % of the ship that you damaged)

consider experimenting with AP instead of HE

in a dd? do explain

play around in co-op

AP can be selected in DD as well

just see how you do if you change ammo

you need to figure out how to do more damge

either shoot more - shoot better - shoot different ammo - or use torps

okay now you're just being kinda insulting

i do appreciate help but all i asked for was why i didn't get much exp that one match

you don't need to tell me what ap ammo is and give me some tier 1 level pointers like "do more damage"

you didn't even do what i asked, which was to explain how ap ammo would benefit american dds more than he, which does barely less max damage, sets fires, and damages modules, with the addition of 102mm ap probably never doing anything

i'm aware, but the issue is that i was asking why i got low exp in that ONE BATTLE, not overall for all my games

and again you ignore my question of in what situation would ap be better than he for the clemson with its 102mm guns, i HONESTLY want an answer but you're avoiding it; why? i am asking for your help and you're ignoring it

The answer is you did 9k damage against only what I think is the NM, which has much more health than that. As such, you only got pitiful xp out of it. Either don't shoot at something that well armoured with pissy guns OR try and hit it with torps instead.

Basically, accept you didn't do much that game which is why your xp sucked, and try and do better in the future.

Not being satisfied with an exp result is a sign that you want to do better.  Unfortunately, you didn't do enough damage in that match you posted, or your XP would have been greater (as would your credit income).

Red gave you some pretty good suggestions.  Sometimes, HE spam isn't necessarily the way to go.  Low tier ships generally have fairly weak armor.  You can exploit that with AP (even from a destroyer, if need be).  When you get Citadel hits (as opposed to base HE damage or AP over penetration), you will get much more experience.  Co-Op battles, while not perfect, are a decent area to practice things/new ships/etc before pvp battles.  Don't just discount it.  You can learn your ship's strengths and weaknesses (the bots aren't Einstein, but can punish mistakes).  More importantly, you can learn where to aim to get bigger damage.

I also suggest watching some of iChase's videos on YouTube.  He does a really helpful "Captain's Academy" series that can be a benefit for you.
