What do I need to do differently with the Colorado than the NM?

My last 15 games with the NM I averaged about 70k damage and nearly 2 kills a game.

In my first 12 with the Colorado, I'm averaging 57k and only 0.25 (but do have 58% winrate).

Clearly my strategy I used effectively with NM doesn't work, what do I have to do differently? Playing the NM was a pure joy at the end, but I've not at all had that experience with the Colorado.

The guns feel so much worse for dispersion, and while yes you occasionally get a nice salvo, it feels way less often than with the NM and its 12 guns..

IMO, you have to brawl with both of them in <15km range. Ideally <12km.

Dispersion really sucks, so I tend to aim more at BB than Cruisers.  Get closer and increase your chances of getting hits.

The dispersion is a lot better on the Colorado to go along with the increased ROF. The keys to the Colorado is picking the correct fights and your placement on the map. She cannot flex very much because of her speed but she does have decent AA and good guns.

I only have a couple of games under my belt (stock), but it seems to do better at closer ranges.

Still, this grind to Hull B is going to suck...

Get the range upgrade for the Colorado. The 19.4km range helps immensely.

Did the Colorado get a dispersion buff?

because before the latest patch, Colorado had quite terrible dispersion at that range.

I free xp'd the B hull first thing, with actual, built up over time, free xp. It's been a decent ship so far, but I disagree slightly with some of the advice. I'm currently running C bull with stock range, having forgone both the FCS system and the range upgrade module. Colorado's strengths are inside 12 km, as has been said, and I find that the spotter plane is enough for when I want to shoot out past 15 km.

Three words - Close in Brawling. Ichase's video says it best.

Also do not touch that Fire Control Upgrade Module. While having the range is nice the dispersion at that range will make you do next to nothing but rage. Check out Ichases vid here and apply it. The Colorado completely turned around on me after this an now I plan on keeping her and raising anouter captain for her.  ^^

The best thing to do with a colorado is sell it and start leveling the IJN line.

Gee, how useful info for someone who wants to go down the USN line, sure just abandon the line you want to go down and go down the line you don't want to. GREAT ADVICE>

Never thought I'd see someone say the Lolerado has good guns...   What is this game coming to???

well actually that is really not that bad at all.  NM is a great ship.  Colorado used to be terrible but, in the few games I have played with it since the last round of buffs, I do believe she is fixed.  Not spectacular, but no longer terribad.  I've been fortunate to get tier 7 battles in it so far so I still need to see how it does in tier 8 battles on larger maps where mobility is a huge factor.

Keep Colorado angled and press into the fight.  Those 16s wreck ships when they connect.  With its improved rate of fire and short to mid range accuracy buff, a Colorado is a ship that can no longer be discounted.

You decided to play American battleships, that was your first mistake.

I don't know what the hate is with the Colorado. Took mine out for a spin with a division buddy who also had one. Nagato + 2 Fusos vs 2 Colorados. My Colorado ended up taking those ships to town. It has a really dependable gun set now. Can penetrate through the bow against at-tier IJN counterparts.

I upgraded the B hull after this thread and the video.

I think my main frustration is feeling like I have to  be within 10km in order to do anything :(

So a few games today resulted in incredible frustration. Aiming at cruisers literally within 4km and I cannot get consistent hits - if I had the accuracy of the NM, I would have 1-salvoed them nearly immediately, but instead I'm watching shells go above the ship when aiming at waterline, etc.

Or aiming at a BB in that range and watching the same thing happen. A parked BB nearly parallel to me, aim at waterline, and see shells hit the top of the ship. wth?

With its normal FCS upgrade it will fire out to 16 or so km. This isnt so bad given that with its camo paint if you are detected you will be in firing range of whatever detected you. The Colorado is very much a need to know kind of ship. You need to know how to armor angle, you need to know where to aim to increase your chance of citadels, you need to know how and when to position yourself where, you need to know what targets to prioritize over others, you need to know how to avoid torpedoes from both DD's and Planes, (thankfully the TB problem is mitigated by the Colos AA and Scout Fighter. If you havent learned these things while grinding up the USN BB line, then the Colo will teach you...(Admittingly I didn't know how to do these either. XP), But the school of Colorado is very much a school of hard knocks.

As for the trolls in the thread that are not contributing anything of value to help you out I would ignore them. The Colo is a decent, if not demanding ship. But the lessons learned from playing her WILL help in the higher tiers after her. EX: Many of the armor angling lessons learned and honed in the Colorado have been a contributing factor in keeping my North Carolina alive. This also has the benefits of lowering High Tier repair costs.

Is the Colorado and easy ship to use? No

Will you be better for having learned it? Yes

So keep at it. ^^ By the way, what modules do you have for your Colo? You said you had the B hull, but do you have the engine as well?

I have the B hull and speed/range upgrades now.

Plus the AA module, main guns durability, rudder shift, and fire/flooding reduction module.

Playing the CO seriously makes me want to quit, I seem to continuously see salvos splash closer/further than the target I'm aiming at, regardless of range..

Okay, not meaning to sound like an [edited]with my next question but how are you aiming? ie: Where on the ships hull are you placing the horizontal line that makes up the reticle?

At the stationary ones giving me a good flat broadside, right along the waterline (like, the reticule is right on the waterline at the center of the ship).

Hmmm, and the rounds are going high how many times would you say out of 10?

Use as much free exp on the Colorado as you can she is a complete joke at T7 also has the sole distinct honor of the only US BB to average less damage than previous BB the New Mexico. Seriously your in a supposedly brawler  ship that still dirt slow with very few guns, bad dispersion, same armor as New Mexico and did you notice a hull upgraded nagato has 65k health to your pathetic 50k.  WG got lazy when they threw the Colorado into T7 she doesn't belong there remotely.
