Well that's all fine and dandy but...

If aircraft spots you, and you are in AA range...

Let the AA fly!

I mean, why not? Turn it back off after aircraft are back outside your air detect range.

You're lit anyway....

I just bring this up because almost every game I get someone in chat saying "turn off AA banshee <insert advice here>". And I'm just

doing it when spotted.

Anyway, comments?

It only makes sense to open up on aircraft that spot you, or to aid in group anti air action.  Just don't forget to turn it back off again when they're gone or when you're isolated.

That's what I do to be honest. If I'm not spotted I'll keep it off but as soon as I am AA's on. Why not get the aircraft down so it's not spotting you anymore???

Same for me. Off when not air-spotted, on when air-spotted, or when my defensive fire is worth more than my invisibility. I screwed the drop of two dive bombers on a friendly BB with ~5k health left and let him survive the match. His sinking would have put the other team ahead on points.

Same here. Only ships I leave AA on all the time are the ships where the AA has a shorter range than the air detection range.

If I am already lit I will often leave the AA on past my air detection range if I am not being shot at for a bit. Whittling the number of planes down as much as you can is important.

Just make sure to target the squadrons with Ctrl-click so you get the AA bonus. Every little bit helps.

Thats fine an dandy, but I don't keep my AA on. Planes light up my DD only for a few seconds, and Minekaze's AA is horrifying. So I permanently keep my AA off.

Yeah but, planes don't just light you up for a few seconds... when you're lit, you're lit. same as if you fired guns. 20 seconds isn't it?

Again, lit is lit.  fire away til you feel the need to quit. If those planes are in AA range, fire away! Just remember to turn it off a few seconds later.

Nope..

There is actually a little bug. You can fire off 1 DP gun at a plane and if you are fast enough and turn off AA , you wont get spotted.

But as to your original question, if lets say a plane is 5km out and you open up with DP guns. You can turn them off whenever and you will instantly become unspotted.

When I made the derp decision to add the C-hull for the Mutsucky I used the AA when spotted by aircraft as it was pretty good.
