Noob question about comanders

Got me a murmansk, if I take the comader out of her and put him into a russian DD the Commander keeps his skills yes?

 

But if I take that same commander out of the second ship and put him back in the murmansk will he loose his skills?

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. Captains can only transfer to another ship of the same class. A CL captain cant transfer to a DD.

 

No wait, what am i thinking. You can just retrain him but you have to  grind back the xp for his skills to work.

 

I was thinking about how a PREMIUM captain can transfer to another ship of the same type for free; no retraining required. Murmansk is a premium CL, so she could do that if there happened to be other soviet cruisers.

A premium ship can train captains from a tech tree ship without retraining and without penalty. Not the other way around.

I think you still got it backwards: A captain trained for a regular ship can transfer to a premium ship of the same nation for free (regardless of the ship type). A captain trained for a premium ship (i.e. one that came with that ship) will have to be re-trained if you transfer him to a regular ship.

Ninja'd again by Lert.  You can have a Premium captain, but you will have to retrain them if you want them in another ship.  Whereas Captain Borisov of the DD X can drive Murmansk without penalty.

No. No such thing exists, has ever existed or in all likelyhood will ever exist. You can have a captain on a premium ship, trained for it or not, but the idea of a 'premium' captain is nonsense and leads to OP's confusion.

No, you can retrain him to a regular ship, and then use without penalty in Murmansk.
